Advocacy and Global Change - Extracurricular

Hey, I’m a freshman in high school. I’m really interested in advocacy and global welfare in general, and want to create some sort of a business or organization to capitalize on this passion of mine. What ideas do you guys have in mind - should I focus solely on human rights welfare, education proximity, etc…? I really would appreciate if you guys could point me to previous successful examples or share possible ideas with me! Thanks

Truly, get involved in whatever interests you. Here is a club that you can start at your school that supports these topics:
A Global Friendship (AGF) is an international non-profit that works towards women’s empowerment and poverty alleviation. We create economic opportunities for women in developing regions around the world who live on under $10 a day, helping them to break the cycle of poverty.

Also, Check out “How to be a High School Superstar” by Cal Newport.

“The basic message of the book is this: Don’t wear yourself out taking as many classes as you can and being involved in every club and sport. Instead, leave yourself enough free time to explore your interests. Cultivate one interest and make it into something special that will make you stand out among the other applicants and get you into the toughest schools, even if your grades and scores aren’t stellar. Newport calls this the “relaxed superstar approach,” and he shows you how to really do this, breaking the process down into three principles, explained and illustrated with real life examples of students who got into top schools: (1) underscheduling—making sure you have copious amounts of free time to pursue interesting things, (2) focusing on one or two pursuits instead of trying to be a “jack of all trades,” and (3) innovation—developing an interesting and important activity or project in your area of interest. This fruit yielded by this strategy, an interesting life and real, meaningful achievements, is sure to help not only with college admissions, but getting a job, starting a business, or whatever your goals.”

Thank you so much! Your input is greatly appreciated. Do you know any other examples of successful nonprofits that work in the area of global welfare? My friends and I really want to get started as soon as possible!

Do you have Model United Nations at your school? That is a club that examines global issues.

Also when you say global welfare…what do you mean? Can you give examples?

I answered you last year and you haven’t answered the questions.

Have you done anything at all last year?
Have you talked to a teacher about ideas?
