Advocates for Full Consideration of SAT Writing Section

Yes, I am only saying this because my writing section was significantly higher than my other sections, but we all know that the essay and the rest of the writing section are the only true indicators of college success.

So, let's tell all colleges to only look at the writing section/essay!

hahaha that would be perfect for me. Writing is my highest, but not by much.

writing kind of evens out the kids that get 800s in math but low 600s in reading…

i view writing as an equalizer!

The essay is crap, but at the same time I do think that the writing section should be considered on par with the other sections.

Personally, I think the math section should be eliminated completely. The SAT should be scored out of 1600, with just the writing and reading. I’d have a 1450/1600.

I’m just kidding of course. :)

I agree with claire! haha. I’d love my 1560 then… Who needs math anyways? ;)

The essay is a joke.

780 MC
7 Essay

710 total.

I agree. The essay is iffy (even though I got 11/12), but the writing section should definitely be considered. It tests only the most basic grammar concepts (I think like 75% of questions are subject-verb agreement questions - seriously?), and Lord knows America could use a crash course in basic grammar. It should seriously be considered. Especially because:

W: 750
CR: 680
M: 650

Waiting for my April 7th retake.

Yes, definitely. Because my writing was good while my CR was poor.

Er Claire I think it should just be math and writing, I’d have a 1570 :p

haha, all colleges seriously should consider the writing section. otherwise, why the hell am i even taking it, ughh. CR is my worst by far, which is weird b/c i can definitely read+comprehend :stuck_out_tongue: damn vocab portions…

W is easy, got a 650, with a 9 essay and 64 MC

The essay sucks. Yo lo odio.

yes please.

770 writing

Unsigned.

Grammatical dot the I’s and cross the t’s is stuff for elementary school, not an indicator for college success.

The essay should be given more weight.

The essay is crap, but you can never teach enough grammar to kids in this country.

I agree, but only because my writing score was the highest (12 on the essay, hahaha!) ;)

umm, grammar is elementary, which is why any1 who can’t get above 600 should seek help from english teachers.

I do think the writing section should be considered more highly.

However, the point value of the essay should be decreased. It’s just too subjunctive – as evidenced by the fact that students score odd scores. (Ex. 11) At that point, it’s just plain random: if you had a different reader, you’d have a different score (maybe a 12).

The SAT is meant to be standardized, not based on luck and subjectivity. Let’s leave that for everything else…

Yes, MC. No essay. I agree that the essay it too subjective. Then again, I didn’t do well on it. But a 25-minute essay is not a good indicator of success. Colleges can see your truly best writing in your app essays–that’s what should count.

As a grammar nazi, though, I fully support writing MC. I think it should be made harder, though. We should start testing people on their hyphenation and tricky whoever/whomever usage.
