Yes, I am only saying this because my writing section was significantly higher than my other sections, but we all know that the essay and the rest of the writing section are the only true indicators of college success.

So, let's tell all colleges to only look at the writing section/essay!

Personally, I think the math section should be eliminated completely. The SAT should be scored out of 1600, with just the writing and reading. I’d have a 1450/1600.

I agree. The essay is iffy (even though I got 11/12), but the writing section should definitely be considered. It tests only the most basic grammar concepts (I think like 75% of questions are subject-verb agreement questions - seriously?), and Lord knows America could use a crash course in basic grammar. It should seriously be considered. Especially because:

haha, all colleges seriously should consider the writing section. otherwise, why the hell am i even taking it, ughh. CR is my worst by far, which is weird b/c i can definitely read+comprehend damn vocab portions…

I do think the writing section should be considered more highly.

However, the point value of the essay should be decreased. It’s just too subjunctive – as evidenced by the fact that students score odd scores. (Ex. 11) At that point, it’s just plain random: if you had a different reader, you’d have a different score (maybe a 12).

The SAT is meant to be standardized, not based on luck and subjectivity. Let’s leave that for everything else…

Yes, MC. No essay. I agree that the essay it too subjective. Then again, I didn’t do well on it. But a 25-minute essay is not a good indicator of success. Colleges can see your truly best writing in your app essays–that’s what should count.

As a grammar nazi, though, I fully support writing MC. I think it should be made harder, though. We should start testing people on their hyphenation and tricky whoever/whomever usage.
