AEM ED vs RD? + chance please =)

Hello fellow CCers,

So I am waiting till today for this chance because I wanted to wait for my SAT scores to come in. The problem is that I can't decide whether or not I should do ED or wait and try to increase my scores in Dec. and do RD. Please give me your advice.

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

SAT (superscored) = 2090
CR = 660
WR = 670
M = 760
It went up by 150 points but I was expecting more...

SAT II:
Math 2 = 800
Physics = 690

Courses:

- Physics (received level 7 on ib exam)
- French (yet to write it)

Higher Level Courses:
- English (yet to write)
- Chemistry (yet to write)
- Economics (yet to write)

At end of grade 11, my average was 96 %...I think that converts to a 3.7 unweighted, not sure though.
Also, its pretty much the most rigorous course load I could have.

Class Rank (my guess since we dont do it): top 10%

ECs:

- Vice President (senior)
- Secretary (junior)
- Grade Representative (Sophmore and Freshman)

- elected Minister of Corporate Affairs (dealing with sponsorship etc. along with other responsibilities)
- provide leadership conferences for the district students

- Summer enrichment program at University of British Columbia
- 500 students selected from thousands of applicants

DECA:
- co-vice president (junior)

Leadership Developer:
- START leadership conference (junior and senior)

Investors of Tomorrow:
- member

International Baccalaureate Student League:
- member

Athletics:

School Soccer team (sophmore, junior and will play senior)
Soccer Coach (under 11 coed team):
- finished first place in league (out of 10 teams)
Select Soccer:
- play in league outside of school at the select level

Volunteer:

Big Brother Big Sister Volunteer (mentoring program: 15 hours and counting)
PLASP Volunteer (after school program volunteer: 50 hours and counting)
Food Bank Volunteer (10 hours)

Awards (not too many in Canada):
- Student Acheivement award (gold, silver and bronze):
- received for having more than 500 "activity points" for extra curricular in school
- Deca 2nd place and 6th place finishes

Hooks:
none.

Essays:
should be fairly good.

Recs:
should be excellent

I hope you can give me some feedback on my chances and also advise me on whether or not i should continue with early decision or hold back, try to improve scores in december and do rd.

THANKS =)

ed dude
50% chance?

hmm I generally think your stats are good, however the SAT is a bit low for AEM.
so definitely go ED

Why AEM?

AEM is getting extremely competitive to get into... you would stand a much stronger chance ED with PAM or ILR.

yeaaa i know the sat is a bit low, which is why i was wondering if it would be better to wait for rd and try to improve it....but i think im going to stick to ed and try to make the rest of my app as good as possible.

any other help would be appreciated

well what i would do is apply ed, and in the meantime register to take sat or act just in case u dont make it. The only downside to that is that if u get completey rejected during ed, u cant apply again. But if ur deferred, ull get to be in the rd. This is the sorta thing i did last yr :) Oh..and ur sats are pretty much the same as mine, so dont worry too much

Thanks TurtleFever. So if i get deferred to RD and retake my sat again in december, will cornell get the new scores from that time around? also, are you in AEM as well?

I think they will, u might have to rush the report to them. No im not an AEM, but like everyone said, AEM is super tough and theres like 92 freshman currently in it. But once you're in, its a breeze :)

thanks turtle fever. anyone else got any opinions?
