As far as I know, most freshman students have some courses that are pre-enrolled (aka. mandatory) by their majors. Does anyone know what courses AEM selects for us during freshman year? I wanna make a note of them so that I can start organizing my schedule.

first semester: you’ll have intro to business management in the fall - it’ll be a combination of the old AEM 1200 and AEM 1201 - case analysis (really useful, unlike many of the other required AEM freshmen classes). in this class, there’ll ONLY be AEM freshmen, so you’ll get to meet the rest of your class. (AEM 1200 spring semester will be open to anyone and everyone.) you’ll also have AEM 1101, a 1-credit class introducing you to your major (useless, but mandatory nonetheless) with about half of the AEM freshmen.

second semester: you’ll have AEM 1102, called “Personal Development” - pointless, pointless, pointless. this is another one of those “why the ■■■ do i have to take this!?” classes that AEM freshmen have to put up with.

otherwise, there are no other MANDATORY classes that AEM freshmen have to take. it’s suggested that you take your FWS, BIOG 1109-1110 (bio for non-majors) your first year, although now that they’ve come out with “fake/fun” bio classes, it’s a lot more lenient. also, take your intro to macro/micro classes (micro 1st semester, macro 2nd). if you place out of them with APs, take intermediate micro - PAM 2000 is really easy - predominantly theory based, ECON 3130 is a bit more math-based, but if you want to take more advanced econ classes, go with ECON 3130. other recommended/typical classes are calc 1st semester and statistics 2nd semester. if you place out of those, then you don’t ahve to take it.

to wrap up: generally, you try to fulfill as much pre-reqs as possible freshman year. look up your requirements to graduate. if you can place out of things with AP, replace those classes with other classes that you’re interested in (don’t have to be AEM related).

here’s the typical AEM freshmen schedule:
