AEM or CAS???

Apparently, the average SAT score for Cornell's AEM is 1475 and its acceptance rate is around 9%. I want to major Accounting but this program is so hard to get in. So I am thinking whether applying to Cornell's CAS would be a more sensible option although CAS is also very hard (but easier than AEM) to get in.

Here are some of my stats:

UW GPA: 3.5
Don't go omg because of this low gpa. I started off my first semester in HS with a 2.7 and am getting almost 3.9 on mid-year report (senior year)
I am also a full IB diploma candidate.

SAT: 1380/2060 (CR: 580 M: 800 W: 680)
1450/2150 (CR: 650 M: 800 W: 700)
SAT II: Physics (690) Math Lvl 2 (800)

Six leadership positions in HS (Math team, Table tennis, Nationwide leadership program and etc.) Many of them are activities that I've continued since middle school. More positions during MS which I've mentioned in one of my essays.
3rd place in math team competition (ISMTF competition)
Good recs and essays.

Would it be worth giving a try for AEM??

You could always put AEM as your first choice and CAS as your second choice. That way if you get in CAS you can transfer in cause apparently a lot of people do this. Good luck!

Thanks  But I heard if I get rejected by my first choice program, the admissions officers won’t really look at my alternative choice. Is this true??

They will determine whether or not your application is worth sending to your alternate choice.

So if you demonstrate excellent fit at your alternate choice then they will see it.

I will also be applying to AEM (primary choice) and CAS: Economics (secondary)

Best of luck to you!

“Would it be worth giving a try for AEM??”

Yes, it would definitely be worth it. Just apply and see.

Although, if you are genuinely interested in majoring in AEM, I would just apply to AEM in the first place and not bother with CAS.
