AEM RD Chances Please

Hi guys, I plan on applying straight into Cornell's AEM program for Regular Decision.
I have legacy (father) at Cornell.

Asian male from New Jersey
I spent 8th grade/freshman year in China attending an international school so when I transferred to school in Jersey, my rank was messed up and I had to take some freshmen requirement classes that my peers had already taken. This should all be explained in the counselor recommendation.

ACT: Took it once; 34 - 35 English, 35 Math, 34 Reading, 31 Science

Rank: Top 10% in a graduating class of 357 students.
Somewhat competitive public high school, sends ~5-10 kids to ivies each year.

Chances are greatly appreciated

strong chances, best of luck!

thanks :)
bump

Not the slightest chance anywhere Harold. If I were you I would pack my bags and move far, far away.
"I spent 8th grade/freshman year in China attending an international school.."
likely story...

To be honest, I think you will probably get waitlisted. Without any alot of business activities (only FBLA), and as a oos, its gonna be tough.

U have a pretty gd chance of getting in actually. Pretty strong SAT and decent SAT 2 scores. Did u apply Wharton ED by any chance?
Btw, ur stats are suspiciously similar to someone i know. Not insinuating anything though.

LMAO i know you.

also, rogue how does me being from out of state lower my chances?

Yeah, as it applies to any school. Any applicant applying as an OOS to a Cali school has reduced chances...very low chances. Same applies for anyone else applying to a state they aren't from. If you were from NY you would be looking at a pretty solid acceptance, but it's a def crap shoot these days.

does your school have tennis in the fall?

and yes being out of state does affect your chances because CALS is a New York state school. You should of done ED, your legacy would of helped you a lot more there

I agree with Post #5, why are you applying AEM? The only business-related extracurricular is the Treasurer for FBLA, and the regional recognization is MATH-related topics. Since you are so Math-oriented, perhaps a major in mathematics or physics?

Well I may be kind of math-oriented because there isn't AP Business, AP Finance, AP Management, AP Accounting, or anything like that.
My school doesn't offer AP Micro/Macro.
And it's not as if math is completely unrelated to business. Schools such as Wharton actually look for a focus in math, specifically Calculus.
Just because the only extra-curricular I have that relates to business is FBLA doesn't mean I'm not interested. Sorry I didn't start my own company.
I did attend Cornell Summer College for a business class over the summer if that helps any.

You are likely in. FBLA and your Math awards along with other EC's and great stats. Not sure what kind of Biz experience people on these boards expect a 17 year old to have. My son had similar stats and EC's and never had a job. He wrote a good essay about what he wanted to do with his education at AEM and he got in the first round of rolling admissions. I'd be surprised if you didn't get in.

Why AEM? Why Cornell?

Harold Lee, AEM is not Wharton. AEM looks weighs fit as heavily as academic ability, its bizarre, i know. Therefore for AEM, business extracurricculars is a MUST. You attended Cornell's The Business World program? So did I. That does increase your chance slightly. Last year, Cornell's application specifically asks whether you attended their summer program. But this year, they only asked if you applied there.

Being in NJ will most definitely hurt u. I can assure u those ppl who are applying to Wharton (about 4000) and Stern are also applying to Cornell. If u look at the number of NYS students and number of out-of-state students in AEM's required first yr class, AEM 1101, most of them are from NY (use your netid to log into blackboard. once you are in, click on CALS and then AEM, and then the course, and then the documents). That leaves about 20~ out of state students. so 20 out of thousands of out of state applicants. yes, u have a great chance of getting in

^^Dang, are you serious?? I'm from NJ too.. Crap..

Interesting, thanks for the info Rogue.
How does Cornell's second choice college option work? I applied to CAS as my second choice, possibly for an econ/math major. Will I be evaluated objectively for both CALS and CAS?
