Hello, I am a senior currently trying to make a decision on which aerospace engineering program is the right fit for me. I have applied to Embry-Riddle, Florida Institute of Technology, UCF, Purdue, Michigan, and Cincinnati. I have already been accepted to Embry- Riddle, FlT, and UCF. Based on the requirements I am assuming I will not get into Michigan. I love the big school feel but a great program is also a necessity for me. That's why I am leaning towards Purdue pending my acceptance. Assuming I get into every school, which would be the best fit for me? Keep in mind I am an Ohio resident.

How do the costs differ for you? The OOS costs are killers compared to, say, OSU, where you’re not applying(!). Costs are a large part of fit, so have you run the net price calculators for each school and learned from your parents what they will provide you each year?

Obviously, cost is a huge factor to everyone. However I personally want to venture a little bit from home and I want to choose the best option for me.

Purdue: Big school, excellent AE program
Embry-Riddle: Small school, excellent AE program
Michigan: Big school, excellent AE program
FIT: Small school, very good AE program
Cincinnati: Big school, average-to-good AE program
UCF: Big school, average-to-good AE program

Since you want that big school feel I would say Purdue or Michigan would probably offer the best fit.

Yes I completely agree and Purdue and Michigan are at the top of my list. However they are also some of the harder programs to get into. I think what I mean to say is that if I don’t get into either of those programs do I choose the better program without the big school hype or do I go for the better experience but at the cost of a lesser program

I’d be very surprised if you could tell the difference in the quality of the education between an FIT and a UCF education. Undergraduate is so much about what YOU do, not where you do it. FIT is a very good school for AE, btw. I know someone who just graduated from the program a few years ago, and they’re laying off guys with much more experience and keeping him at his big AE firm on the Cape. There could be a lot of reasons for that, but he feels he was well prepared for the industry at FIT.

I am thinking to go to Wichita State University for AE. I’ve already been accepted there. Is Wichita State a reputable school? I know it’s not the tippy top, but I’ve heard it’s decent. Congrats to you, Football73, if you can get into (and afford!) any of those schools you listed.

Albert69 thank you, I am very unfamiliar with Wichita States program because I focused a lot of schools boarding or in ohio and Florida (mainly because I am a golfer)

Thanks anyway.

Wichita State has a good program because there is a lot of aerospace industry in Wichita. Lots of airplane manufacturers are located there.
