Aerospace engineering? Spacecrafts or planes?

Hey guys. I'm trying to decide whether or not to major in Aerospace engineering.
I love spacecrafts and I think space travel is extremely interesting, but things like planes really bore me.

I'm going to attend the University of Illinois in the fall, and I was wondering if anyone knew if the Aerospace program at U of I is more astronautical or aeronautical?

I would much rather learn about astronautical engineering and I'm wondering if I'll enjoy this major.

Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance!

It is a combination of both and actually a lot of mechanical engineering (which is true everywhere). Go here for an overview of the Aerospace engineering major and requirements [Course Information Suite, Course Catalog, Class Schedule, Programs of Study, General Education Requirements, GenEd](<a href=“Course Explorer”>Course Explorer) and go here for a description of all the aerospace courses [Course Information Suite, Course Catalog, Class Schedule, Programs of Study, General Education Requirements, GenEd](<a href=“Course Explorer”>Course Explorer)

i am a senior in aerospace engineering. it is quite different from mechanical engineering. the choice between aero and astro comes in your senior year when you pick your senior design class and technical electives. most of the stuff before that will be theory and applicable to both aero and astro. There are two classes in junior year that actually make the distinction and deal with both spacecraft and aircraft. A lot of students in my class liked only the spacecraft parts of these classes, but i enjoy both. It is well balanced until your senior year. Opportunities for research in both fields are good if you are a citizen. But if you think planes bore you, you might not like most of your classes, as they deal with the basic principles that govern the motion of these bodies and has a lot of theory and problem solving.

Im just going into my junior year as an aerospace engineer, and as of right now there has really been no distinction between aero and astro. I’ve only had one class that has touched on the actual subjects of flight and space travel and they were taught equivocally. Its a tough major with a heavy curriculum, but its worth it to do what you love.
