Aerospace Engineering: UF vs. Embry Riddle vs. Florida Tech

I got accepted into Embry Riddle and Florida Tech last year around December 2012. Embry Riddle offered me 8k/year for a scholarship while Florida Tech offered me 18k/year to go study over there. Which school have a better opportunity for Aerospace engineering and support? I know Embry Riddle keeps saying that it’s number one in aerospace engineering but how come there is no rank on USNews for it? Is UF’s AE renowned?

Well I personally do not give rankings a lot of weight. My first college ever was ERAU; I was there for 3 semesters. From my perspective, ERAU and FIT are pretty much on the same playing field for engineering. Yes, ERAU has a hair more name recognition when it comes to Aerospace Engineering. However, FIT has a great alumni network and industry connections (having being originally a training school for NASA).

You mentioned UF in your title. I would suggest that school over the others. UF has a larger endowment, more resources in every aspect, and more name recognition nationwide. It also costs less than the other two options.

Which brings me to another point. You do realize that ERAU will set you back about $40K per year? Their $8K scholarship isn’t going to cover 1/3 of your costs. I definitely don’t think ERAU is worth $30K per year for Aerospace Engineering…when you could go to UF or UCF for a fraction of the price.

Both ERAU and FIU are smaller schools though. I know that can make or break someone’s success in college. I personally thrive in smaller classes myself; so I could see why someone would be turned off from large state schools.
