AES Award is in Galaxy account

I recieved 3K a year with Top 5%, SAT: 1370, and UW:3.83/W:4.41

Just checked mine; it says 10k a year, and also lists a 4k ‘Non-Resident Grant’ ; can anyone explain what this additional grant means?

I’m OOS, applied in late September. 1480 SAT and 3.8 UW, top quarter of my class.

Edit: just to make sure I’m reading everything correctly, receiving the 10k also qualifies me for in-state tuition, right?

@AverageJean check if there are 2 rows , one row says 10K and other row say 4K. In that case I am guessing total 14K considering you are OOS tuition status.

@bm12345 yes they are listed as two separate rows. Do you know if the grant is one-time or all four years?

The website still says that any AES award qualifies you for in-state tuition, so I believe I’m not paying OOS

@AverageJean It is not one time. whatever they are listing it is per year for next 4 years.

The website is rather confusing,
https://www.utdallas.edu/enroll/freshman/aes/prospective-students/awards/

at the top it says

yet a few paragraphs below it says “may”

And this one says, yes
https://www.utdallas.edu/enroll/freshman/aes/prospective-students/faq/

DS20 got the highest amount (16K), but there is no mention of in state tuition anywhere. As a matter of fact, there are no award details included - such as required GPA or even if it’s renewable.

@mathKids Same for my daughter. She got the 16K but under Cost of Attendance it is showing full instate tuition :frowning:

@janiemiranda
I think we will have to check directly with UTD. On the other hand whom else would they give the instate tuition if not to those at the top group? Unless they decide not to give it at all.

DS20 is NMSF, so this may be a mute point. Unfortunately, we won’t find out about NMF anytime soon. Unless he is guaranteed instate UTD tuition, he may still need to finish the last application to our state school.

@mathkids I accidentally wrote full instate tuition in my earlier post but I meant she has full out of state tuition listed in her Galaxy along with a 16000 AES award - but I see you understood what I meant anyway!

My daughter is also waiting to find out if she is a NMF. I think that comes out in early/mid February. UTD will totally be off the table for us if for some reason she doesn’t make NMF and they don’t award instate tuition.

Guessing if we haven’t yet rec’d the communication in our Galaxy account one isn’t coming??

@Confetti70 Probably isn’t coming, but when I was talking to some current UTD students about AES a couple weeks ago they told me about how UTD forgot some people/ gave them really low awards, but when the person asked for reconsideration they got top tier awards or the amount of their award was raised. I would definitely call or email them about it if you have good scores, GPA and/or class rank.

Did anyone from out of state who had the AES award show instate tuition on their galaxy account?

@GTAustin and other any information about the AES appeal process? How do I go about it and if I need to initiate within a certain duration of the award being announced? Thanks

If you go back to Financial Aid in Galaxy Account, it will show it now.

Woo hoo! Looks like the waiver for instate tuition has shown up now on Galaxy! UT Dallas you da best!

Great!!! So happy to see the in-state tuition there. DS20 is likely to become a NMF, but it’s nice to know UTD is affordable even without it.

Now I can relax and stop refreshing this site obsessively

My OOS son applied on 12/2 and received AES yesterday. There are three rows:
Anticipated Fall waiver: 12363
Anticipated Spring waiver: 12363
Scholarship : 16000
Total awarded: 40726

He’s NMSF; SAT: 1540, weighted GPA: 4.2.
Does it mean that he got tuition waiver in addition to 16000 stipend?

Anyway, we are very happy and grateful.

@NJMomOfBoy Yes, That is what it means! Congratulations!

Thank you - this is great!

@NJMomOfBoy I’m sure you know if he moves on to NMF the award is even better but it is sure nice to have that in your back pocket!
