Does anyone know if one is more effective then the other? Also once offered a Falcon Scholarship or prep school are you completly out of the running for an appointment this time around?

I think if you are offered a prep school It means for that year you are out of the running for a regular appointment... but that doesnt matter because you are going to the prepschool instead.

As far as FF, i think thats a seperate thing and some people may get a FF and appointment although i never did the FF.

My son was offered the FF for next year. I called his admissions counselor and she said he is NOT out of the running for an appointment this year, even if he does accept the FF. I asked about the AFA prep school and she said that it is offered to those who still need some additional work in an area. The FF is for those who meet all the criteria for AFA, but there are no spots left. I find this hard to believe since those attending the AFA prep school get the monthly pay. She told us my son is not out of the running for a late appointment until July 1st. I am just relating what she said. If anyone has better info, it would be appreciated. We still have not decided what to do.

The Prep school is for those deficient in some area but otherwise meeting the standards of acceptance. It's basically those folks USAFA wants but can't take yet.

FF is for those not accepted to the Prep school but in a similar situation. Basically it's a scholarship to pay for prep school, whereas the AFA Prep is obviously paid for.

If your son wants to go to USAFA, he should take the prep school option.

the way it works most of the time is if you are a civilian, you normally get a FF scholarship. If you are prior enlisted or a sports recruit, you get usafa prep. I know there are SOME exceptions to this but for the most part that is how it works. I received a FF scholarship for next year and will be attending Marion! !

Right, The AFA Prep is mostly for inlisted men. As I understand it, if you get the FF early, before the regular appointments, then you still could get the appointment but you also have the ability to go to a prep school with the FF money if you don't get a regular appointment. I got the FF and I'm going to Northwestern this fall!

Yes, there are SOME exceptions...my son is neither a prior enlisted nor a sports recruit. So it is possible to be considered for the prep school based on other factors.
