I've been away a while, working night shift and it screws up everything. I just had to get on here and brag about my daughter, Navy_Hornet. She just got the e-mail today that she was accepted for Session B of the AFA Summer Seminar. She put the application in about the 3rd of January. Our ALO called and said she was in the second group, which he called "highly competitive" who needed an ALO recommendation. I guess the first group is those who get right in. He came by our home on Saturday the 14th and asked her a lot of questions and also gave her a heck of a sales pitch. He was pretty laid back but asked some tough questions which I feel she answered well. He did suggest she not use her e-mail address (Navyhornet) when communicating with the Air Force. I guess his recommendation letter was good because she's in.

She's only floating about a foot off the ground. I can't wait too see how she handles all the rest of the process next year. Still waiting for February 1st to apply for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar.

Cougar! Great to see you here again. Exciting news for your daughter. Having a connection with an ALO must be reassuring in case you should have questions. A point of contact that you know personally is an asset to the process for sure. Let the options begin! I hope she has many. Tell her good good good luck with everything.

Cougar: Great new for your daughter - and you. Congratulations.

Don't know your daughter's preference between AFA and USNA but, either way, I recommend she attend the Navy Summer Seminar. My plebe son at West Point has fond memories of the Navy Summer Seminar and says he liked it better than his summer week at West Point.

I did not think that was the case either. Perhaps Cougar_62 has misunderstood something (i.e. "I guess the first group is those who get right in"). My objective in post #5 was merely to clarify the issue for all of us, or to gain info that the rest of us do not have. That's all.

My squad leader at NASS told me that while there, they graded us on our performance and sent those grades to the admissions board. It added a few points, so it couldn'tve hurt.

Sorry if I caused confusion. What the ALO said was that for Admission to the Summer Seminar they put the students into four groups. The first group was accepted, to the SS, immediately. In the AFA site there's a post from someone who got an acceptance e-mail in about two days. The next category is "highly competitive" and that group gets a call or interview from an ALO. I'm assuming the next two groups are less qualified.

I didn't mean this to be a discussion of qualification for an actual appointment, just passing on what we'd been told. The main thing is the ALO wrote a recommendation and about three weeks after tuening in the application she got accepted.

Aspen, to this point the daughter is still leaning towards Navy, but is keeping an open mind. She'll definitely be applying for the Naval Academy SS next Wednesday.

My son submitted his Summer Seminar application around mid-January, and received a call from his ALO last week, scheduling an interview for today. As I type this, he is in the middle of this interview (his mother & I were not invited to the interview, so we're stuck at home waiting to hear the outcome). I was curious how long it took your daughter to hear from the AFA after her interview was completed.

My son applied to SS 1/1, had an interview 1/17 and received an email that he was offered a slot for session A on 1/25. I was surprised to hear so early.

But he thought his interview with the ALO went well, so if it goes well.....

Grappler, My daughters interview was Saturday the 14th, and Like afa81's son she got an e-mail on the 25th.

It's interesting how different the ALO's seem to be in there approach. Ours came to our home and encouraged us to be involved in the interview and asked us questions also. I'm sure the interview for the appointment would be more formal.

I just got a letter the other day that said i didn't get into the summer seminar.

"Thank you for your application to the Summer Seminar. Although you have an excellent application package and you have the potential to become a very competitive applicant to the Academy, we regret we are unable to offer you an invitation to attend this year's Summer Seminar due to the limited number of participants we can invite."

wow. if i was interviewed by my alo, does that mean that i was in the 'highly competitive' block? Could they have canned my acceptance due to an unacceptable SAT critical reading score? (not math, just reading) thanks.

My ALO talked to me the other day and said that the AFA sent him (not sure if it was just him or all ALOs) statistics of the applicants to the SS. He mentioned that the numbers of the total applicants and the percentage of who got accepted. He also told me what percentage I was in the total SS application process.

If you're really curious you might be able to ask your ALO and he might have stats.

I also did not get into SS. My ALO said he was shocked. He was bummed he thought I was shoe in. His only advice I have got to get my MATH ACT score up.....I almost wish I had not taken it so early.....

I have not heard back from USNA yet but I am guessing it will be a no. So I am taking the ACT and SAT every chance I get.

but really why would they care so much so about an SAT score for a summer seminar app.? wouldnt they assume that i am going to take it numerous more times and improve? (by the way i know this was my weak point b/c i have a really impressive resume)
