When I first decided to apply for an academy, Air Force was my first choice. I applied to West Point and Naval Academy secondly with my heart hoping on Colorado Springs. As the application process progressed, Air Force seemed unreachable since my strengths are not in Math and Science and since I was told that my height (5’1" and apparently too short to fly) would be a hindering factor in my application. My goal soon rested in West Point. I found that i was accepted in Feburary and have been planning on going ever since. However, today I found that I have been accepted to Air Force and have 24 hours to decide where I want to go (due to nomination reasons). My family is pushing AFA, since it is closer to my Southern California home, near my grandfather who lives in denver, and for ‘safety reasons’ due to the war in Iraq. I understand that what I need to look at is my later career in Army vs AF but I do not know enough about either to make that decision. Any input?

which one do you want to go to? you say your family is pushing afa, is that what you really want after planning on WP for so long? your family isnt going to go to afa for you...

I agree with SparkleandShine...go where YOU want to go (don't let your family influence your decision too heavily). Also, you might try calling your liaison officers from both WP and AF to talk with them and see what they have to say-they're probably pretty good at giving advice on situations like this.

Thanks so much for the responses, FYI My interests are in Military Intelligence or Law (JAG program).

i think you can do that in either af/ army. so where are your chances better? and if theyre the same remember youre gonna spend 4 years at either academy so which would you rather spend 4 years in?

I don't know about Army, but I know with Navy(marines you may be able to) and AF you can't go straight into Law out of the Academy.

I think USAFA said two years out, you can go to Law School.

You can go to 200 years of tradition unhampered by progress in the Long Gray Line, or you can join the Blue Sea at 50 years of excellence. Your choice.

Ok, so that was totally biased. Ignore that part. However, I will tell you that if you're not sure what to pick, think about what you're going to be doing once you're done: Air Force or Army. And if you are having doubts, remember that AF is your safest bet. No matter what you do in the Army or AF, you will be deployed or put into duty. If you go to WP, that can mean being a platoon commander in Iraq. If you're in the AF, it could mean Iraq too, but a lot less likely.

Talk to people from the service (if you have time) and get their feedback. Above all else, go where you want to go.

tv... you said you found out today or yesterday that you received an appointment to AFA. Had you previously received a letter indicating otherwise or that all appointments had been issued. Also, could you explain the 24 hour dealine. thanks
