I like your user name, and your apparent appreciation for pounding the keyboard with relentless intensity.

(sorry for the lack of usefulness in my post, but eh, what can I say?)

lol...each letter actually means something...its all a coherent word

Ooh now I'm even more intrigued!

squints at title for hidden message

everything is looking very good except for the GPA..

hmm...one thing about the GPA is that i messed up my soph year, and got back on track jun. year.

About the ranking thing, I might be in the top 10 percent by the time i apply, but im not 100 percent sure. In addition, the way my school weights, I take a lot of EC's, and they are graded on a 4 scale, bringing my GPA down.

So given the GPA, what are my chances...

asdjkl:

UCB/UCLA: Safe Match

same with me..i messed up sophemore year and got back on track junior year too

thanks flopsy...yeah goodcolleges I was very sophomoric in 10th grade. I also only screwed up the second sem. gradeswise bcuz of AP Euro/English/Writingg. This year I was able to take AP's/classes that i was passionate about.

Guys I really want to know how much this GPA thing will hammer my chances. I can maybe get my SAT up to 2300+. Then do I have a chance at MIT?

asdjkl, i actually have a similar name to your and people thought i didn't put any thought into it lol.

Match for Berkeley/UCLA

CMU SCS or CIT?

Depending on your GPA it would probably be a reach for Ivies (depending on which one), SCS, Stanford, MIT. These schools are very competitive and usually have an overwhelming majority of applicants (maybe 97%?) in the top 10%. I think the avg applicant is in the top 1-5%. Even with your high school's competitiveness the top 20% will hurt a bit.

I think hopefully the rest of the UC's would be your safeties.

supposing that i get in the top 10 percent of my class--what happens then?

my school has this weirdo percentage system--if you are in the top 10 percent you can state that, else you state your gpa. Its a small class where the ppl are hella smart. Senior Class: 11 National Merit Semi's out of 40, not including all the commended scholars.

For math/science im definitely #1,2, or 3 gradewise--Ive gotten all A's.
Debate/Sports bring my GPA down, and actually affect my class rank.

I would think that if you can state you are in the top 1% to 2% if you exclude the sports and ECs, then you'd have a case at the Ivies, MIT and Caltech--otherwise the GPA is what's hurting you.

your chess rating is uscf right? or is it a yahoo or uscl rating? rofl

hm pinewood debate...do you know jerry hong?

uscf.......
