I am in all honors classes this Freshman year. I am on varsity fencing and soon playing lacrosse, I have been volunteering since I was very young at a animal shelter, and I am in three clubs. All of my grades are A's and B+'s, although my history grade is a C+ because of two bad tests (It is the end of the first quarter). Will this C+ freshmen year affect my chances of getting into a good college? Do colleges look at grades in freshman year?

It won’t help, but if it’s the only C+ you ever get, it likely won’t make a difference. But does your school send out quarter grades or semester grades on the transcript? It’s possible that grade may never see the light of day if they only report semester grades and you turn it around.

Consider the C+ a warning shot that you need to change something. Maybe cut back the ECs, lighten the academic load, play less Xbox, change study habits, get a tutor, reprioritize what you study, etc. After a quarter, it’s not a fluke and the time to take action is now.
