Affect of Foreign Residency on FAFSA

We live and work as volunteers in a foreign country even though we are US citizens. We list a Pennsylvania address on our US taxes which we always file but we have never lived there longer than a couple months at a time. We own no US property. What effect is listing a Foreign Country as our sons residency going to have on the FAFSA?

You have 2 separate issues going on here. If you file the FAFSA and your son attends school in the US, if he is eligible for federal aid, he will receive it. Your son living in a foreign country will have no effect on him receiving federal aid.

He most likely will not be eligible for state aid or in-state tuition in PA because you are no longer PA residents.

I would suggest reviewing the forms for each PA public university; the rules are state specific, but can vary within the state school to school. Generally the more difficult the school is. admissions wise, the more stringent the rules.
