Do you think affirmative action, or preferential treatment of minority groups, is fair? We were discussing this in class today, and the UGA admissions standards came up. Will they go as far as granting admission to a minority with lower stats as opposed to a non-minority with higher stats in order to "promote diversity"? Interesting.

I'm a minority, but that's not the point. It is ONLY a myth on whether or not UGA does that or not. I have talked to some people that work for UGA, and they've told me it is not true at all, however, by reading some posts on this forum, I have slightly convinced myself that it could possibly be true. If I had to chose, I would say that's all a myth and not a fact.

Here is some actual statistical data for African-Americans at least from last year:
Applied 1,680 Accepted 558 Rate: 33% Yield: 57%
Mean SAT 1100 Mean GPA 3.68 (of students who enrolled)

Overall Student Body:
Mean SAT 1233 Mean GPA 3.79 (of students who enrolled)
Applied 17,016 Accepted 9,295 Rate: 55% Yield: 51%

Remember, these don't take into account the stats of the applicant pool itself, so that accounts for the differences in acceptance.

Amazing. I hope I get accepted with a 3.9 something GPA, 12th ranked out of 219, and with an EXTREMELY LOW SAT SCORE of 970 with the verbal and math combined... 22 on English, 23 on Math, and 21 Composite on the ACT. I'm a horrible test taker! :(

you will know in 48 hours! Have you taken a test prep class to try to improve your test taking ability?

No ma'am, I have not. I am a horrible test-taker, and I really should have taken some classes to improve my test-taking skills.

just chill out my friend. we'll know it soon. Hope we all get in.

Hehe. I really do need to chill. Thanks for the suggestion, crisoliva. I hope you get in as well! :)
