i was just reading bout the proposal2 in michigan where they stoped using race/gender preferences for state colleges there...i'm not really too sure about exactly how the law worked in the first place, so i was wondering does this help asian candidates? (me)

It doesn't help you at all. Why would it? Now colleges in Michigan don't look at race (not that being Asian gave you a leg up to begin with). Some Asians would say it helps because now fewer URMs are going to be admitted because race doesn't play a factor any more. The way I see it, you still need to be atleast in the middle 50% of SAT/ACT scores and have a good class rank, you should get in last year, this year, and next year, regardless of the laws.

right the part u said bout fewer URMs being admited is what i'm talking about. i understand that u still need the same stats, but in my case i'm really really borderline, so anything could put me over the top

At that point, it depends when you turn your app in. You see people with 25 ACTs get in when they apply in September and people with 30 get rejected when they apply in December. Prop 2 still does not affect your chances.

lol i got deferred first time around... waiting for that second review. the thing is my sat is like 200 points above the average but my unweighed gpa is crap due to my hs's hard grading (i'm top 5% at a school that sends like 3-5% each year to top 20 colleges, but my uw gpa is 3.4), but of course umich doesnt care....

Mich cares. They look at your whole profile. If a 3.4 is very good at your high school which seems to have good luck sending kids to top schools, then you should be fine. Maybe Mich just wanted to see better grades 1st semester.

ive heard that because of affirmative action asians lose 50 pts from there Sat, whites dont lose or gain, hispanics gain 170 pts, and blacks get 230 pts. Then i think legacy got 180.
