Hi everyone,
Does anyone happen to know of a place (or person) to get some quality guitar lessons around Cal that aren't too expensive? I've found it rather difficult to teach myself and was wondering if there is any guidance to be found around campus. FWIW, I can read musical notes and tablature already, so I am interested in learning the actual technique of playing the instrument.

Besides looking around campus for flyers, there is a guitar store down on Shattuck. I think they would have connections to guitar teachers. [The Starving Musician Online Music Stores](http://www.starvingmusician.com/)

I actually taught myself guitar. Learning how to hold it is one of the first major obstacles. Make sure your right leg is propped to hold the curve in the guitar’s body. (If you’re right handed that is.) Don’t hold the neck tight. Your hand and fingers need to be free to move around the fretboard. It’s really all about practice. Holding a guitar right is like learning how to ride a bicycle.

The Starving Musician, huh? OK, looks good Thanks for the suggestion. Craigslist looks promising too. BTW, I do know how to play some basic stuff already – I took just a few lessons a while ago and occasionally pick the guitar up and play some tabs however i’m not very good – it’s mostly problems with barre chords and buzzing notes that are bothering me at the moment. Plus I really need to learn how to play fingerstyle.
