Afraid my schedule will effect my chances of getting into college

My schedule in 9th and 10th grade consisted of mostly pre-ib classes. However, I am not taking ib classes (I am taking ib Spanish though) 11th grade due to how rigorous they are. I’m doing very well, but I wish that I did take them because I’m afraid colleges won’t consider me anymore. Next year I’m taking 2 college classes (forensics and English) and 3 ib classes (Spanish, business and psychology) Do you think colleges will over look my easy junior schedule if all other 3 years I took rigorous courses? Or have I ruined my chances?

Also, my school doesn’t offer ap classes.

Depends on which schools you are applying to. Top schools want to see both a high GPA and academic rigor and they have said that they prefer a B in a honors/AP course to an A in a regular course. But of course, that is only one part of the admissions process, but if you’re applying to top schools, you’ll be at a sizable disadvantage academics-wise.

@cassie1818 - if you are trying for top colleges, your decision not to take IB classes will likely hurt your chances as they are looking for people who take the most rigorous schedule possible yet still manage to well. They have enough applicants that they can afford to be picky. However, if you have a significant hook, you may still be able to convince them to take a chance on you.

Once you get past the top tier colleges, this will become less and less of an issue as applicants who have not taken the IB or full schedules of AP will become more of the norm, and acceptance rates will be higher.

As of now I’m considering applying to UMD, UCONN, penn state and JMU- those have a decently high acceptance rate  However I’m also applying to Lafayette, F&M, and GWU, which are reaches, so I could see my schedule being a disadvantage.

Oh and University of Florida.
