Hi was admitted for pre business and was looking into attend ucr. The only problem is that I'm terrified of going to a uc. It just intimidates me. I don't think of my self as a slouch since I have 4.2 GPA thought hs. Is it really that hard at a uc. I have heard that its going to be 4 hours a day every day just studying to pass a class. Is that true? The other thing that is scaring me is that when I search ucr a lot comes up about people really doing poorly! Overall what's been your experience?

Hi, I’m a first year here at UCR. Coming from a competitive high school, classes at UCR were a lot easier than my classes in high school. It’ll be easy if you manage your time wisely and prioritize. Starting college has really tested my ability to have self control and manage my time wisely.

I think the biggest problem would be not having your class everyday. When that happens, you feel like you can lay back and have plenty of time to study but you would soon realize that the class is moving very fast. It shouldn’t be much harder, you just need to put in some study time and you’ll do fine. =P

As a graduate I have to say, UCR and college in general is harder because you have to have the discipline to study and go to class. You are an adult now and can make your own decisions. You have about 3 hours of lecture for each class a week, then a few labs/discussion sessions for them. Within 3 months you are told that you need to know everything they may or may not test you on for those 3-4 classes. Then it repeats with 3-4 other subjects.

It’s hard but not unmanageable. I think you will learn how to do it within the first month. Don’t pick 8AM classes if you can, you will burn out quickly when you to that. What worked well for me it that I study my notes and learn to truly UNDERSTAND what was covered after each lecture. Don’t let too much time past between the lecture and your study or you will be overwhelmed with multiple courses and lectures.

Best of luck
