Africa

Does anyone have experience w/ an African study abroad program. D2 is interested in going there next fall. I think it sounds exciting, but H & I are concerned about safety. Her University will not allow students to attend schools in areas w/ travel restrictions from the US. (Kenya).

But any other feedback about Africa would be appreciated.

Anyone? Africa experience?

These two are amazing and credits transfer to almost every school.

Thank - you!

D2 is also very interested in Africa. She attends SUNY Brockport. They have 2 programs in Africa, one a summer research in Kenya, the other in Ghana. She is a freshmen so we have some time to look into it. Chech the Brockport website for more info.

vahevala-- Be careful-the U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning for Kenya. Our D2’s school will not let students participate in programs in this country.

This is what they write on their website:

NOTE: The U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning for this country. Current practice at xxxxxxxxx does not permit students to participate in off-campus study programs located in countries for which the U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning. Please consult the State Department Travel Warnings website for the most up-to-date travel warning information.

This is why I was inquiring about Africa.

D spent part of her semester abroad program in South Africa, mostly in/around Capetown. She went with the International Honors Program (IHP) for 4 months studying “Health & Community.” She was also in Geneva, India, & China.

UGA has program in South Africa. Campus looks beautiful.

Students from our town have gone to both S. Africa and Senegal with very good experiences. Senegal is ostensibly a French speaking exchange, though Wolof is the language used in the streets.

S. Africa scares me due to the crime rates, but the students I’ve known are very happy with their exchanges.
