African Americans and the ivy league.

So can an fellow african americans who got into an ivy league school or just an extremely good college, tell me their stats and how they did it..

black+ at least 1800 SAT= IN! at one of 8 ivies. guaranteed. if not harvard, then upenn.

:]

^ Umm, not true. You need something more than just being black in order to get into an Ivy League college. It might not be academic (you need some academic competence, though), but something more than just race is needed.

why can no one detect my sarcasm?

don’t try to pull the URM card on Yale! it’s not stupiddd

A friend from my school was accepted at every college he applied to, including Harvard and Stanford (he presumably would have been accepted to Yale had he applied.

He was black, valedictorian, had a 2270, was ASB President (former class president), won the Women’s University Speech Contest, and was in Junior State of America, Model UN, Moot Court, NHS, swim, and dive. He was an average writer, but very charismatic and doubtlessly gave a killer interview. He would have had a decent chance even if he weren’t a URM, but he was, so he was unstoppable. He also won a local scholarship that gives him a full ride for undergrad and graduate school, as well as all kinds of cost of living stuff.

Interestingly, he ended up going to UC Berkeley because he couldn’t stand Harvard and Stanford’s “ugly campuses.”

^Your friend is on crack

christiansoldier: I hope your friend revises his reasons for turning down H and S because of their “ugly campuses”. The shallowness of that answer shouts out and his credibility would plummet in anyone’s eyes. Certainly we all can have dumb thoughts or even publicly deplorable opinions. But to so casually spout them off – it says something about his common sense.

OP: there’s no formula. You submit the same items as everyone else. Frankly what you are is already been set. GPA, scores, transcripts, LORs, you know the deal.

OP, do your research:

T2: His sister and both of his parents went to Berkeley. He really wanted to go to Berkeley. Also, if you knew him, you’d know how important it is to him to go to a campus that he thinks is pretty.

i dont think there’s one definite way to get into an ivy league, regardless of your ethnicity. just do well on standardized tests, have good grades, and pursue your passions. thats all you can do.
