I was planning on going to ole miss next fall and I was wondering how accepting they are with African American girls in traditionally white sororities? How do other fraternities respond? And are there interracial friendships among those who participate in the Greek life or is that not really "common"? Honest answers please! Thank you!

You can look at the photo galleries at the sorority web sites linked from http://dos.orgsync.com/org/umgreeks/npcchapters . It does appear that Ole Miss sororities are highly racially segregated.

Okay I live in Louisiana and a good number of white kids from my school apply to Ole Miss. It is probably one of the most racist schools in the county, and though none of my friends are racists, it does have that rich southern aristocrat vibe as well as the red kneck one sometimes. If you are from the south, you know what I’m talking about. I am a black female and I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. My safety is LSU. We have had a few black kids apply to Alabama and they do alright over there. It’s pretty similar to Ole Miss, but there are more blacks and they are working on desegregation there. If you’re looking for big schools in the south where you won’t get lynched, bama, LSU, Georgia, and UT. UVA. Maybe if you’re kind of preppy, but that one is hard to get into.

I go to UT and while the “you won’t get lynched” part is true, you would have to stay far away from the traditionally white fraternities and sororities. There have been multiple racial incidents happening with them since forever. I know many black friends and they would never do anything that has any affiliation with the traditionally white sororities and fraternities. I only know one black person (she’s half black half white) that tried to join a party at one of those sororities and she got called the n word and had multiple beer bottles thrown at her and so she left and since then has not attempted to affiliate with any of those greeks. We do have multicultural greek orgs which might be a better fit.
