African Americans in Honors/AP classes

For all of the high school students out there, how many or what percentage of African American students are in your Ap/Honors classes. I am an African American (male), in out of all of my AP and Honors classes, I am the only African American in each of my classes which, I never really took into consideration until recently.

This is not a racial question, I am not trying to provoke arguments, but I just find it quite interesting.

I also go to school with a large African American population.

Thanks.

I think the "African-American Students" forum would be best for this question. But to answer, I'm usually 1 of about 5 black students in any given Honors or AP class in a school of about 2000 students.

Uhhh. I'm in AP Biology and AP Government. No African American students in either one of them as I recall. I've got an Indian that tries to act "black" in my AP Bio class, if that counts lol.

hmm..well my school is majority white
and i'm only in AP classes, so it's usually 1(if any) african americans in my class
all of the AP classes are like this at my school

Um, usually 1-2 in honors at my school, and occasionally one in my AP classes (there are only two AA kids at my school that frequently take quite a bit of AP classes).

In an average AP class at my school, the class is all white except for maybe 2-3 people, usually Hispanic.

I should probably add that the average AP class has around 25 students and Honors borderlines 30...it's disgusting.

i've only been in one AP class with an African American kid...out of the 8 i've taken. there are 2-3 Asians in each of my AP classes. the rest are usually Jews/whites.

I got to a school of about 1,200 and I think about 30% is black. Our school has five APs, and of them all, I only remember one mixed kid to be in any.

If I posted the truth I would probably be banned for racism and trolling

I go to a 50% black school and about 33% white. There is only two of us black males you will find in the honors/ap classes, then there are a few black females, depending on the class. But in no way do the honors/ap classes reflect the demographics of our school, Its quite sad.

English II H - One boy & One Girl

That's it for me, but I know that the girl also takes Biology H, US History I H, & Spanish III H, hoping to be a doctor. The boy I don't know as much about, but I know he takes APUSH I.

Racist thread!

there are only like 10 black kids in my school. so i'd say 0 black kids have ever been in my honors/ap classes.
our school asian population is something like 40%. in my honors/ap classes asians easily make up 80% of kids...
yeah, i think about this sometimes too, lol. it's pretty interesting. in my accelerated classes i'm usually one of the only white females, as well. kind of strange :p

Majority white school...um, I'm only in 1 Honors and 1 AP, so it may not be very accurate now:

English Honors- 1 black guy
AP World - None.

Well, we have like a 80% white population or so at my school.

But in AP classes I don't have a single African American. There are a few in AP classes, they're just not in my class. Still, the number of African Americans in my school that are in any AP class would not be more than ...5 total.

In my macro class, I'm like one of of three girls. And guys outnumber girls in my chem class too.

My school is about 55 to 60% white around 40% black. There are no Hispanics (it's sad) and a few Asians. The city is about 52% white, 45% black, so ratios are about the same at my public school, even though it's a school you have to test into and a lot of kids are kicked out in the first years.

My Honors classes were a 2-year, 3 class program with 80 students. AA classes are what Honors classes are in most schools. By the way, I'm a black girl.

Honors: About 6 black kids the first year (8th grade). Eight or nine the second year (Ninth grade).

AA: Depends on Subject. In AA sciences and math it's really heavily skewed. Like in my chemistry class there were maybe 2 black people, but that class also had only 5 guys, so maybe it was just really effed up. There are, by the way, fewer boys in my school and it's more obvious in AA/Honors/AP.

AP:
APUSH: Four black people and about 25 in the class.
Art History: Two black people and just under 20 in the class.
Calculus BC: One African American (me) and one African (first generation Ethiopian immigrant). About 15 in the class.
Human Geography: 5 or 6 black people and 30 in the class. This class is most representative of the usual AP ratio, I'd say.
English: 4 African Americans and 1 African (from Ghana). 25-30 in the class.

So generally, AP classes are around 15% African American.

I'm half Greek, and half black. I'm biracial, but I guess you can include me in your statistics. :P

I go to a school with about 2000 students. I'm currently taking 4 AP Classes, and plan on taking 6 AP classes next year.

Last year, there were 4 African American students to get 5's on the AP Calculus exam at my school and 1 African American girl to get a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam. I'll admit, there isn't as many African American students in AP classes and my school is primarily African American and Hispanic.

~ Theos

My school has about 2,000 students also. The most African Americans I have had at one time in my APs would be 2 in my APUSH class last year. One guy and one girl, the guy was only there because the teacher was the varsity coach of the football team and he's a linebacker. The girl is very smart, and has been in many of my APs and Honors.

I would assume it would depend somewhat on how diverse your school is. I (for a brief time) went to a largely African American high school. Everyone in my AP classes were black.

When I attended a largely white school, most people in the AP classes were white.

There's probably 4-5 African Americans in my IB class of around 120.

Okay so in my grade of 54, 8 are black. And in that, there is only one who takes any AP/honors class and it's just honors chem.
