lol great another AA debate...i'm sorry wow, im blk and i dont believe you will be admitted to princeton...it is one thing to have a dream of going to very prestigious college but do you really believe you have the intellectual eptitude to survive the rigors of a princeton classroom setting....youre grades/test scores reflect that you don't...considering that you have no other significant accomplishments that may overshadow youre lack of academic achievement i find it highly unlikely for you to gain acceptance..perhaps you should look into schools such as emory/notre dame where where you still would be in the bottom quarter of applicants but would be much more competive than at hyp...or perhaps a school like howard/UF who would more than happy to accept you with scholarship money and where you would probably have a better chance to excell

Its cool Rollo. Penn rocks! I cannot wait to attend in the fall. Getting accepted took nearly all the sting out of getting rejected twice from Princeton (deferred ED was the 1st).

You made the right choice believe it or not. Penn is definitely not second to Princeton. I really dont think Germans or Brits would pick Princeton over Penn or Harvard.
Many people abroad have never heard of schools like Dartmouth and Northwestern. Next to Harvard, MIT and Yale, Penn is the most recognized American University.
A Wharton degree is like gold in The City, Londons financial district. Penn is also worldclass many others areas.

"Next to Harvard, MIT and Yale, Penn is the most recognized American University."

that is patently untrue. heck, penn has lousy name recognition here in america, in part because of its state-school-sounding name and frequent confusion with penn state (high-paid consultants recently confirmed this for penn). the best-known universities in britain and, i would wager, elsewhere, are HYPSM and berkeley.

In a nationwide survey of approximately 1,000 men and women, administrators reached a conclusion that they had been dreading -- over half of the respondents affiliated the word "Penn" with Penn State University.

Moreover, further research revealed that only 21 percent of those surveyed identified Penn as an Ivy League school, compared to the 89 percent who knew that Harvard was a part of this group.

Not surprisingly, 19 percent of respondents said that Penn State was a part of this elite group of universities, which administrators have speculated to result from confusion in names.

"After doing the research, we saw that there is significant confusion between Penn and Penn State, and most Americans do not realize that Penn is in the Ivy League," Doyle said.

Brits may confuse Dartmouth with Darthmouth the British Naval Academy. Correspondingly, they may confuse Princeton with a prep school near the Queen's home in Windsor.

I better stop talking about Princeton like that because my cousin is studying EE there.

It is farcical for people to infer Penn is Penn state. In fact Penn is the oldest university in Pennsylvania. Know your history!! Ben Franklin-- Penn's founding father!

I think you have a chance. Just work on your SATs and do something unique over summer. Write awesome essays and get excellent recommendation of letters. Then your chance will be improved.

I read a post in Harvard forum. Here is th link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=16882&page=4&pp=20

CaCutie, an African American, got accepted in Harvard RD with SAT score of 1280.

I also read a post that another African American got in Princeton with SAT score of 1320.

I am not whining or complaining, but I am saying that SOME minorities get accepted into Ivy Leagues despite their low SAT scores. I am studying like hell for SAT, and my score is improving dramatically (especially in verbal). I am just saying that it is possible that someone can get in HYP with low SAT score.

that person who got in with a 1280 was very poor and was the first in her family to go to college. those factors made up for her scores. you dont fall into that category.

f.scottie is correct. I myself had no idea Penn was a private school let alone an IVY. My views were changed when a firiend's S attended PENN (also have you noticed that those who go to Wharton say Wharton, they never say PENN)

Whenever you are trying to abuse a system that is meant to aid needy and you don't need it, you should start questioning yourself.

Wow_98 Don't worry about African Americans getting into Ivys with low SAT scores. The SAT is not a good cognitive measurement tool.

In Britain they have the A levels; however, many Orientals don't do very well on it. Does that mean that Orientals are not smart? A level English involves tedious composition and logic; it also focuses on writing skills. A level math is tough you will not see simple algebra and trigonometry.

Asians make up more than 8% of the UK population; however, less than 2% of the students at Oxford and Cambridge. Most of the Asians in the Oxford area are visiting students.

Before it becomes a problem, the most politically correct term would be asians not orientals.

ok ASIANS! Rhamster -- I was just trying to make a point. May be I should have said Indians and Chinese. Asians are diverse. I apologize if I offended anyone!

Please educate me why Oriental is wrong. I would like to know.

I'm not offended at all. I'm not asian. It is just that it can be a very touchy thing and I would hate to see people "bickering" over such nonsense.

Rollo, read: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=oriental

Especially the usage note.

It just could lead to some friction and we are better than that on the Princeton board. We have to keep the dynasty alive for the class of 2010. Class of 2009 set the bar pretty high.

Thanks for the Info! I will not use that word again! Thanks!!
