Africans Presence

I am applying to Uni and I will like u guys to suggest some american schools with huge african presence.

Huge? You’ll be hard pressed to find that…

But you can apply to schools that you actually like, in the mean time :)

No I think it is a fair question. Presence is not necessarily directly related to precentages or numbers. A given populations presence on campus can be a product of groups and organizations, community outreach and campus tolerance among other things.

Obviously no school has a large (relatively speaking) precentage of African students, but in small numbers people can still be strong.

One thing you will have to distingush between is that of African Americans and Africans, although people tend to clump the two together, that is not the case as the two groups are different in many regards.

i don’t really mean huge but well larger than average.

Temple (10char)

Harvard…

yo I know abt temple but harvard I don’t know

Just use College Board’s matchmaker program and check ‘historically black.’

Howard University in D.C. A disproportionately large number of black students at Ivies are from Africa or are the offspring of Africans.

Check colleges’ web sites to see if they have organizations for African students. Such organizations could give you info about the presence of African students on campus.

If money will be a factor in where you attend college, you may have to follow the money as many U.S. colleges don’t give scholarship assistance to internationals.

kyle, just because a school is historically black doesn’t mean there are a lot of Africans.

There is a sizeable African population at SUNY Buffalo.

Another option might be looking for a program with a renowned African-American/ African studies major… I can’t tell you that there will be more African-American / Black students on a campus with a solid AfAm/ African major, but I imagine that there will be considerable interest, support, and programming directed towards African culture and/or race consciousness.

The poster explicity said “AFRICAN.” Also, Northstarmom, are you certain that the description “disproportionately large number” is accurate, at Howard or elsewhere?

Does South African count?

Historically, Howard has had a large number of African students, and a couple of decades ago used to be the most diverse college in the country. It would be worth it to check out its website to find out where its students come from, and to also check with its international and/or African students organizations.

kk19131, Why wouldn’t South African count? It’s in Africa.

Re: Howard – see the first organization listed here:

http://www.howard.edu/currentstudents/studentlifeactivities/studentactivities/activestudentorganizationsandclubs.htm

if you have facebook, you can search for some African student groups and see which schools have significant populations

I would assume that the ivies all have above average African presences just due to the fact that they have more internationals in general.

In looking at the first page of schools deemed “historically black” by the College Board, I see most of them have 90+% black populations. The only reason they put “historically” black is so that they don’t sound exclusive.

yo howard has many africans(i know some guys there) but aint there no other. Also huskem55 i tried ur idea and it came out a bit blank
