If you want to do a chances thread, post in the regular Penn area. More people will read it there. And for a chances thread you're going to want to put down more information than you did.

chances look good

what was your GPA? it should be good being ranked 6th in the class

I'm a little annoyed that you put "Afro" chances at Penn. I'm not arguing for or against ethnicity having weight in College admissions, but I don't think that it's an enduring factor that matters as much as everyone thinks and a factor that should be bluntly stated.

Now that that is over, as for chances, I don't really know. lol. I'm sorry, but you gave us a really vague picture of you. I'm sure there is a lot behind "good ecs" and I've heard essays do matter a bit ;-).

I take it you applied RD, so I wish you the best of luck.

Good rank, although scores are relatively weak for someone who has obviously had opportunity (going by your relatives' alma maters), and thus can't really hide behind the "SAT is culturally-biased" argument...but yeah, this is a very vague picture, and essays and recs are VERY important. URM is a nice hook.

Assuming nice recs, ECs and essays, I'd be optimistic about chances.

Chances are quite good as long as you've taken as challenging a course selection as your HS offers.

beprepn

Dayo, you would be qualified regardless of the color of your skin.

Which, sadly, is more than I can say for a good deal of the URMs enrolled here...

i agree with lucky98...colleges should look at ethnicity, they need to accumulate a diverse student body, but the way dayobball6 made things sound it was as if he wanted "special" consideration outside a university trying to put together a diverse student body. I'm not saying that certain minorities havent been through a lot in the past but have any of the kids applying to college now "suffered," no. Just like the "rich white girl" you talk about BayAreaGal214 didnt personally do anything to offend a minority now.

"colleges should look at ethnicity"

I totally disagree
I believe in the diversity of thoughts and ideas.............not ethnicity
