I was recently rejected an AFROTC scholarship from the January selection board. However, it did state that my application package will be viewed by the next selection board in February. I have no idea whether my chances will increase or not for being offered a scholarship by the February selection board. Based on my criteria, what would be the chances of being offered a scholarship on the next board or perhaps the board after that? I rank 12 out of class of 336, 1920 SATs, have numerous leadership activities including a Director of Outdoor Activities position at a summer camp, more local and state academic achievement awards than I can count, currently holding A averages in AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Statistics, play Varsity sports, member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Math Team, New England Math League, etc.. I also scored near maximum on the fitness test for pushups and crunches (1.5 mile run was average). Above all, I am pursuing a technical major in engineering, which is what the majority of recipients receive scholarships in.

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm venting, but I found out I was rejected just hours after I received and email from the Unit Admissions Officer at Purdue University, stating how impressed he was with my resume. I'm just a little frustrated.

So if anybody has any idea of what the next selection board would say based on my criteria, that would be awesome.

Thank you!

I am in the same boat. I also got re-boarded by AFROTC, however I am surprised that you did. Your stats are excellent, and its starting to make me scared…lol.

I would have to say that you have an excellent shot. JW though, what if your GPA? It must be pretty good since you are in the top of your class.

If you would like to know my stats, check out this thread.

I did horribly on the CFA with 30 sit ups and 20 push ups, but I ran the 1.5 in a respectable 10:09. I’m not fat or anything, I just have NO upper body strength.

Best of luck for the next board, and wish me luck too!

I am familiar with Navy ROTC requirements, the Air Force is probably the same, and what they look at is math scores…also, should have applied for the Navy also

OP, try posting on the Air Force Academy page (click “colleges” and look for Service acadamies). Often people on the Service Academies pages have info about ROTC since most who apply to SA’s also apply for ROTC.

As for my GPA, I think it’s approximately 3.65. It sounds low but our school has a notoriously tough grading system, a valedictorian will occasionally get a 3.85-3.9 GPA, but I think colleges will scale it in their own way.

Your stats very good, your math and verbal scored on the SATs are impressive. Plus, going to an “elite” school like that has its advantages, colleges know that those types of schools do a better job at preparing students for college than ordinary public schools.

Overall, I would say you have good credentials. I told the same story to my recruiter, and he told me that unfortunately this is tough pool this year. Of the 13,000 applicants, roughly 1200 will be offered scholarships. So I honestly have no idea if you or I will have a better chance on the second shot. What do you plan on majoring in? I know that the Air Force is especially low in electrical engineering and meteorology majors and likewise will have a much better chance at being offered scholarships.

Miperson- I also applied to the NROTC, at the very last minute though. Their process is a little different but still very competitive nonetheless
