AFROTC Scholarship

Hi, I'm currently in the process of applying for an Air Force ROTC scholarship and am now just waiting to schedule and complete my interview before finding out whether or not I have been selected. My question is what chance do I stand of being selected for a scholarship if I do not wish to pursue a technical major? I have a strong resume (lots of leadership things, etc.), a 3.9 unweighted GPA, 1420 (Math and Verbal SAT), and a 31 ACT score. I also got 67 push-ups, 51 sit-ups, and 10:05 on the run during my fitness test.

I realize the possibility of getting a Type I scholarship on a nontechnical major is almost zero, but assuming my interview goes well, does anyone happen to know what kind of chance I do stand of being selected to one of the few nontechnical major scholarships (hopefully in political science with a focus in international relations)? And on the note of the interview, is there anything in particular I should ask my interviewer regarding my concerns or just in general?

Thanks much in advance.

I’m a current ROTC cadet at the University of Arkansas. I would advise you to not get your hopes up about receiving a scholarship without pursuing a technical major. None of the freshmen (AS100s) who are pursuing a nontechnical major received a High School Scholarship, and the same goes for the sophomores (AS200s). However, 4 of the AS100s studying technical degrees received scholarships. These degrees include computer science, mathematics, and civil engineering.

Your resume is very impressive, and your chance will vastly improve to get a scholarship if you study one of the highly desired technical majors, such as computer engineering, electrical engineering, and meteorology (there are a couple more, but I do not remember them).

Due to the cuts in the USAF budget recently (AFROTC was cut 25%), scholarships are next to impossible to get unless you’re studying a technical major and have amazing grades.

Hope this helped!
