Okay so I have two loves, theatre and teaching language. So my current plan is to go to a school like AMDA or aada for theatre, get certified for Tesol, teach in the peace core an when I get back I want to get a masters in tesol. So my question is will that be possible with a degree for a conservatory program? Please help thank you!

You’re in the wrong forum for this question- this is the Music Forum. I have a Master’s in TESOL and those are available only at certain colleges or universities and are never offered at conservatories.

Post over in the Musical Theatre or Drama forums to talk about AMDA, but you will not hear positive things about the school. I doubt that you can use a “degree” from there to get into a master’s program, and I am certain that you can not use it to get into a TESOL master’s degree program because you won’t have the required course work. You’ll also need to take the GRE exam, and AMDA’s courses will be useless for that.

Certificates in TESOL aren’t really worth the paper they’re printed on as they are relatively cheap and easy to get and the world is littered with Americans believing that they are qualified to go abroad and teach English. You’re not doing the students you work with a service by not getting a good degree in the field and by gaining as much fluency in other languages as possible. That’s not to say that the Peace Corps will not take you without the language degree, but you could probably help in developing countries a whole lot more by helping to dig wells and bring fresh water to people in need.
