After AP Calc

I'm taking AP Calculus BC this year, and I'm wondering what I should take next year? My counselor says that the next step would be taking Multivariable Calculus and Matrix Algebra (they're semester courses so I'd be taking both). However, I've already satisfied my math requirements. I know that there are other options such as AP Stats and AP Computer Science or I could just completely drop a math class.

I was wondering, what are your opinions on this?

take the MV Calculus and Matrix Algebra. If you hate math – which i doubt you do since youre taking BC – take AP Stats.

Your high school offers these? Take them.

(What else do they have?)

Take the highest your school offers (in your case, MV Calc and Matrix Algebra), unless you hate math. If that’s the case, take Stats/Computer Science. Colleges want to see 4 years of math, so don’t drop math completely, even if you meet your schools requirements.

I wish I had the option of taking that level of math at my high school. I took Calc AB as a junior and they don’t offer anything higher, so I had to take Stats (unless I wanted Calc II as an Independent Study, which I am so not smart enough for). Take advantage of the options your school has for sure.

I was actually really good at math in general for most of my life, but then precalc came as sophomore year. At first, I could keep up but then during 3rd and 4th quarter, the concepts became more and more complicated and abstract and I couldn’t quite understand everything. I still got an A in precalc but that was because I knew what formulas to use on the tests even though I didn’t completely understand why. So I believe that my foundation for Calc BC is a bit shaky even though I can handle it. Besides, the precalc class that I was in covered Calculus A so that was another reason I didn’t want to take Calc AB. I can’t stand classes where I already know the material and so I end up being bored.

AP Stat and Comp Sci are basically the only maths I haven’t taken besides MV Calc and Matrix Algebra.

Also, for colleges, is it four years of math? Or taking math all four years of high school? I never quite understood what they were looking for. I’ve never considered taking a math beyond Calc until now.

Hahaha, you all are so opposed against me dropping a math class. Thank you for that. At least I’ve ruled out an option.
