I’m really interested in Brown, but heard from somewhere that it can be quite difficult to get into a good graduate school after attending Brown, because other schools don’t trust the open curriculum there. Is this true? Thanks!

Thats completely untrue. I don't have the exact statistics but I think over 80 or 90% of students get into one of their top three choice business and law schools.

Ok, great. Thanks very much!

have you heard of that guy who took all his classes pass/fail and got into harvard med?

What about if, instead of doing something preprofessional (say, med or law or business), you want something like classics, french or art for grad school?

Well, there are no preprofessional majors at Brown, so its the same deal.

the stats for professional school acceptances for brown undergrads are astounding--particularly for a school that is not particularly pre-professional

100% of students get into their top three choices for business school
90% get into their top five choices for law school
80% get into their top five choices for med school

brown students regularly win presitgious fellowships, including fulbrights, rhodes, marshall, goldwater etc.

also, perhaps because of the open curriculum, a large percentage of students stay in academia and attend grad school within three years of graduating. i don't know the statistics for who gets in where, but in english, engineering, biology, neuroscience, physics, and comparitive literature i personally know people from brown at top programs (harvard, mit, princeton, berkeley, stanford, etc.)

Life...After Brown???....What a depressing thought.

from the brown website:
http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/gettoknowus/factsandfigures.html

35% of undergraduates pursue graduate or professional study immediately.

60% of undergraduates pursue graduate or professional study within 5 years.

Brown consistently ranks among the top five colleges in the nation in the percentage of its applicants accepted to medical school, and these impressive records are similar in other areas of graduate study.

Of those who apply to law school, 92 to 95 percent are accepted to one of their top three choices; among business school applicants, the figure is nearly 100 percent.

Within 10 years of graduation, 80% of all students have pursued further education through graduate or professional study.

in addition, brown students consistently win some of the most prestigious fellowships including the rhodes, fulbright, marshall, etc.

Okay that wasn't quite meant in the vein it was taken to be.
