after cmu

so i hear all about the great future that lies ahead for majors in compsci/tepper business and all that, what about english majors n such? or is cmu not the place for humanities ppl...?

humanities at cmu? I mean the programs are fine but I don't see why one would want to pay CMU tuition to study only liberal arts with so many good LAC's around (but people do)

they have salary surveys at the H&SS website (post-graduate survey is what it is under I think) and you can check salary per major along with some grad school selections that people chose

i hear that creative writing is a good program but if i were doing humanities I would look at some rankings for the major itself...without a major it's hard to say if it's worth it to come here or not

I will say that if you are an undecided humanities student then you might not like CMU that much just because it seems like everyone has decided on a major already (though being undecided within a college isn't too bad)

bottom line - humanities here range from ok to very good but some schools ranked below CMU (like Tufts for example) might have better programs

There are many great majors within the Humanities school at CMU and many poors one. The Creative Writing program is excellent. There are many diverse classes offered and the different workshops within the program are wonderful. Obviously when most people think of CMU they think of the SCS and Tepper SoB. However, don't feel the humanities department doesn't have plenty to offer. It does depending on which major you choose. The fact that you don't have to declare right away allows you to explore different options within the school and through out the university. There may be better options out there though so this all requires plenty of research. I can't provide much more information about any other majors within the department since I haven't heard much about them.
