I recently received a letter stating that the CMU music faculty gave a "very positive" review to my audition to CFA. They said they were recommending me for acceptance at CMU.

My question is, how likely is actual acceptance based on this recommendation? Do academics still play a large part in my admission?

Anyway, I'm super excited about finally getting news... my first college response! woohoo it makes waiting until the end of march easier...

I was just visiting CMU and they said that admissions for the schools of fine arts is based primarily on talent/audition; something like 80 or so percent, and then the rest is on academic merit. So, it looks good for you! :-)

That sounds pretty similar to how things work for graduate admissions. You get accepted by the department, and they recommend the school accept you. Generally it just means they're checking to make sure nothing you sent in was fake, or they're just waiting to get all their ducks in a row before sending out acceptances.
