I have a question regarding the Spanish Placement Test.

I see that all the Spanish courses from 1 to 3 are currently on waitlist. They were on waitlist stretching way back in the summer.

Does this mean that those who place on the "summer" spanish placement tests (which was today and is tomorrow) cannot enroll in their Spanish course until the Winter?

Taking the Spanish placement test doesn’t guarantee you a spot in a class. If you took it this week and you are not enrolled in the class, you can enroll for another quarter.

So how was the test for you? I might take it soon and I’m curious as to what it’s like.

You’re not a senior, are you? I’m sure you can definitely take the test and THEN enroll into the class, but it shouldn’t be such a big deal. Spanish does understandably fill up faster than other classes, but a lot of students eventually are able to take the class.

Maybe a spot might open up if you’re on the waitlist.

You don’t have to take the Spanish placement test to enroll into Spanish. You judge yourself on what level of Spanish you are for courses 1 to 3. However, if you are wait listed for those classes, there is a definite order the TA’s take into account on who gets into the classes.

On URSA, doesn’t it prevent you from enrolling in anything higher than Spanish 1 due to unsatisfied perquisites? How does self placement work?

Self-placement is what it sounds like. You choose the level you want to go into and simply enroll without having to take the placement exam.

I didn’t know this at first and enrolled into Spanish 2 prior to taking the placement exam, and I eventually got placed into Spanish 4. I didn’t need to take the placement exam however, but I guess the extra studying didn’t hurt.
