No, this wasn’t just another college party. This was utter and complete depravity. I mean, public sex? Open defacation? That’s not “craziness,” that’s just sick! I can’t believe this kind of behavior would acutally occur to people! And as a sorority alumna, I’m saddened to see that it gives the Greek haters that much more ammunition.

I have never seen a urinal or sink used for that. The rest–yes, more or less. Heard of Woodstock??

Right, and I don’t think that anyone else is arguing otherwise.

Surely we are not arguing about the morality of “drunkenly trashing a facility”. It’s wrong, and ought to result in a civil suit. Or an arrest. Did it?

No, they have to pay for the damages. Claim is $47,000. Partiers say that is high.

I wonder whether colleges are going to make their courses more difficult. I’ve heard that they dumbed down classes over the years compared to the 50’s, let’s say. So now that admissions are more competitive, and people have time to trash facilities, drink starting Thursday, etc. I wonder if they’ll make their classes harder.

They have been drinking on Thursday nights since the end of prohibition at least.

Fixed that for you. ;)

to you poor victimized greeks - look when were looking at colleges we certainly found a diversity of fraternity sorority life. There were some campuses where almost all houses were service focused (which include where DD is going, and where she may actually consider rushing a service sorority, which I would approve of)

But there were definitely some where they were the center of drinking culture. Which may or may not have existed forever, but is the reason for the stereotypes, more than anything else. You can claim the drinking stereotype is false - or you can defend drinking ‘culture’ You can’t do both.

But the most annoying thing - “I’m Greek” “Greek Life” etc, etc.

You are not frigging greek, anymore than I am eskimo. You belong to a fraternity named for some greek letters. There is no greek life on campus unless there is souvlaki, or someone knows who directed “Z”. Or, god save the mark, someone reads aristotle. It just sounds so vulgar “he went Greek”

^^

“I’m Greek” is just more convenient. “I’m in a fraternity” is so much harder to say, particularly when you’ve kicked a dozen brews down the hatch.

The drinking culture is great because it leads to the hookup culture, which is awesome.

"The drinking culture is great because it leads to the hookup culture, which is awesome. "

Yeah…talk to me in ten years.

I feel sorry for the wedding taking place in this facility the next day. ewwww.

since when does a handful of students getting caught using drugs constitute a “big drug bust”?

I hope they all overdose and die.

Nice.

(10 char)

Dissapointed. I was hoping to read something good.

Yeah college is a time to have fun and let loose as well as learn. You can have excellent parties without causing $47,000 in damages, having public sex and committing assault & battery on someone who had nothing to do with the party.

@ghostbuster

I like not being told what is moral and what is not moral. Sorry, but you don’t have any right to say that this is immoral (just as I don’t have the right to say that this is moral). The only thing we can agree on is that this is illegal and it’s a stupid thing to do. Please don’t bring in the whole the-sky-is-falling-because-we-are-becoming-a-morally-bankrupt-society argument, kay?

Also, I agree with a few points made by other people. This has nothing to do with morality - it shouldn’t even come into this. And you really do come across as one of the holier-than-thou types (especially where you say that you ‘only’ ask your kids to ‘adhere to their religious values’).

I juts don’t get why people join frats. yes, blah blah, you form friendships, but isn’t that what college is about? why do you need to join and be accepted by a group of guys or girls to finally have close friends? lol. it just seems kind of sad and ridiculous to me.
