Thinking of transfering on sociology. Can I change my major after transfering there? If so how soon can I change it to something else?

I doubt it.

Yes you can. Its only a matter of filing paperwork for the department in which youd like to transfer to. There are several majors, however, that they will not allow you to switch to. Some of these off the top of my head are Economics, Communications, and Film/Theatre. Also you are not guranteed to be accepted to the major of your choice so your best bet is to apply in the major you really want to study. UCLA administrators know people try to apply with a less competitive major in the hopes of getting in then switching to the major they really wanted they refer to this as "back door entry" and are really trying to stop this by adding majors to the list of majors you can't switch to or double major in. With the influx of applicants to UCLA many majors have been placed on the impacted list and I think Sociology is on that list so really its not an easy major to get in to either. UCLA lets you switch major's because they know that people will take classes in other departments and have a change of heart as to what they want to pursue so in this sense they do allow you to switch.
