Age discrimination in top grad/professional admissions

I think that mdbiot’s statistics don’t prove age discrimination in and of themselves. When comparing recent college graduates to people 10 or more years post-B.A. it’s hard to have an apples-to-apples assessment. Older med school applicants often had only modest academic records from their undergraduate years, and frequently take chem. and bio. classes outside of the typical undergraduate schedule in order to qualify to apply. Having gone through that, they’re going to apply even if their chances are poor. Add in the hyper-selectivity of medical school and it stands to reason that a lot of older applicants don’t measure up to the younger crowd objectively.

Of course, individual cases are individual.
