Agnes Scott/ GSU for Pre-Med

Hey! I'm looking at Agnes Scott College. I want to attend a good medical school like Harvard, Yale or Stanford. With that in mind, do you think Agnes Scott College is a good school? How about Georgia State University?

My brother goes to GSU. He loves it. Good academics and the school is on the rise. Be careful of the homeless people etc tho very schechy around the area.

Thanks! Do you know if its good for pre-med?

It is perfectly fine for you to contact the Pre-Med advisors at each of these places, and ask about their Med School placement. They should be able to tell you how many students start out Pre-Med each year, how many continue in that pathway, and how many get into Med School (and which specific Med Schools) each year.

Take a look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1227517-best-schools-prepare-you-med-school.html

Note that where you go to medical school is not especially important unless you are set on a career in academic medicine so going to Harvard, Stanford or Yale doesn’t make you are a better doctor. Where you do your residency is more important. Note that your state of residence is also very important to gaining admission to your state medical school, which will be half the cost of a private medical school.

As long as your undergrad school is accredited and has a decent reputation (GSU does) you should be fine to get into top schools if you have a good GPA and MCAT. I dont know particularly about the premed program though. My brothers roommate is pre-med chem/physics major and i think he’s going to go to a top notch med school

Congrats! How does he like the program and where is he applying? Wish him the best of luck ! :D

OP, I am assuming you are in the ATL area? Welcome to CC.

As far as premed, there is generally no such major. Pre med is a group of classes that you have to take in order to apply to medschools. See this forum [Pre-Med Topics - College Confidential](Pre-Med Topics - College Confidential Forums)

Read everything there. Once you have, post questions on that forum. There are many current med students, parents of, etc.

What year are you OP?

Sorry, I don’t know who OP is? But thanks! I’m deciding between GSU and Agnes Scott and I NEED HELP!!!
