ahh! admissions help please ^_^

Hey I was wondering if this looks like what UC Berkeley is looking for at all for music/creative writing majors:

GPA: 4.19 weighted (going to rise)
3.88 unweighted (same)
Rank: 32/317 (getting better..it's in the 20's now)
SAT: (they're not fair)..writing 610, crit reading 520, math 550.
ACT: June 10th, not taken yet.
9th grade i took almost all honors (I have 3 B's on my transcript), 10th grade i took 2 honors, this year (11) i took 1 ap and 4 honors and have all A's (one b+). From 10th grade on, I have all A's on the transcript. Next year, I am taking 4 AP's (2 AP and 2 ap weighted honors) and 1 actual honors honors.

Extracurriculars: People to people student ambassador program, national youth leadership conference (possibly--next summer), glsen (helps teach others about diversity), junior mendelssohn choir, voice lessons, piano lessons, cantoring for my rabbi, jazz choir, chamber choir (most elite), and many others that I can't think of.

Thanks!!

With your SAT, I believe it will be a reach no matter the major. Sorry if I sound blunt. Try to work on that SAT so you can have as a good a shot as possible.

freshman year grades don't count at all. Recalculate ur UC gpa with only sophomore and junior year. If you've recieved mostly A's in 10th and 11th grade, then your gpa should be fine with that many honors/aps

Your sats need some work. Plan to take SAT Subject Tests that are relevant to your intended major as well.

You're class selection is pretty nice in terms of how many AP's/honors you've taken. Might I ask if this was the max number of AP/honors your school offered?

Your GPA is good. Your SATs are not. Pretty simple. You may be able to get in with those scores..........maybe. But yeah...get some study guides, maybe take a class or something. ::shrug::

Wow, you're stats are similar to mine, sort of. My GPA definitely outshone my SAT scores. I think you still need to boost that current score up to around 1900 to 2000. I tried to break 2000 but was very close.

If you're an intended music major, the fact that you took all those extracurriculars to show that you have a passion for it is great. That was me and journalism. Most of my extracurricular activities were journalism-oriented meaning I interned for a paper, I was editor for my school paper, etc etc.

I definitely think you have a shot. I honestly did NOT think I had that big of a shot at Berkeley.

Like the others said, bust up your SAT I, also score high on some SAT IIs (my combined SAT I was lower than 2000, but my SAT IIs were 740 and 750, which presumably bailed me out). Your GPA is very good though.

I thought music majors only had to audition? (Scores didn't really matter as much for music majors?) Also, if you want to major in music, you have to audition before you attend Berkeley supposedly and declare prior to attending. A birdy told me you can not apply undeclared but you have to audition prior to starting.

i'm not really sure, but do music majors need really good SAT scores??
i know a guy from my school who got into UCLA music and he's not that smart academic-wise... He is pretty damn good with his clarinet though.

If you're an very talented musician, then SATs would be less of an issue into the music major. The music majors I've met at Cal were pretty talented. JBeach I think it's a long shot, but you should certainly try.
