Ahh! Need ACT advice

I just got back my ACT scores and am very dissapointed. I got a 26 composite. I did fine on everything except science which really dragged me down. I'm applying ED to NYU (Tisch) this fall so I only have one more shot at this test. Does anyone have any suggestions so I can break 30? I've got the Real ACT prep guide and the Kaplan guide (I didn't really study much from them like I should have). If I start studying now do you think I can get a 30? Also, has anyone used the lazy students way ACT guide, is it any good?

I tried the "don't study at all" method and got a 33 or 34. Just retake it this fall, and this time, don't stress about what you get. If you are more relaxed during the test, and you get a good night's sleep the night before, you will be more mentally ready than had you studied for hours. If you want, get a guidebook and look it over, but don't stress yourself out. Have you taken the SAT already? Because what I did was take both, and my high ACT score wound up making up for my lower SAT score. Maybe it will be opposite for you. And remember, you're allowed to guess, so when you hit the science part, rule our a few choices that seem illogical, and make your best guess. That's what I did.

I got my best scores on the ACT when I was most relaxed taking the test. If you want to review some more, I really like The Real ACT Prep Guide.

yeh i got a 34 because of a terrible science score...i'm just gonna relax this fall and hope for the perfect score. relaxation and mental readiness is key.

I agree. The first time I took the ACT I did a few practice tests and skimmed through the prep book. I got a composite of 30. The second time I was just taking the test to be taking it ('cause it doesn't matter for the ACT how many times you take it). I didn't review in any way shape or form. Got a composite 32. I'm eventually going for a 34. What I would recommend is studying and then just forgetting about the test 2 weeks before and going in and being relaxed.

Thank you everyone for your advice!
