Ahh! Textbooks

Okay, so basically I've spent like $600 on textbooks, but I still need to be another one, Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, but all of them are over $100, which I can't afford.... Can someone recommend me a good textbook site that sells it cheaper/trade? I desperately need to find one before school starts! Thanks!

Your school doesn't give you books?

ebay
i bet they have good prices

or amazon.

(I have to buy me texts too...)

It also helps if you're willing to tolerate an older edition. Usually older editions of math books are less watered-down than newer ones (though you might have problems if the teacher assigns you homework problems from the book).

Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic starting from $8.00.

BUMP!

Thanks for the advice!!! I need the 2006 AP edition, which is different from the older version, and ebay doesn't have it cheap (neither does amazon: $117), so....

Check the google product search area (nee froogle) http://www.google.com/prdhp and you'll possibly find other sellers. Some of these are the people who advertise on amazon/ebay anyway, so you might not be able to find anything new.

I am in the process of looking for my kids' textbooks now, and the pickings seem to be a lot slimmer than in previous years. For example, the chem book I checked the used prices last June and found several options around $50, now the cheapest used option is through the official bookseller (varsity) which never happens for me. I had waited because they were changing the course and the teachers are never explicit on if they will use the same book until the list comes out.

It is possible that there might be more postings as people sell their old books to buy new ones, but I wouldn't count on that.

Yeah, I know jackief. When summer just started,I found that book for $1 on ebay, but now as school starts to approach, there are more bidders and higher prices. It's too bad I can't use older versions...

CC should make a textbook trading forum or something, I bet that would get a lot of people.

armando: most private schools require you to buy your own textbooks. to the op i use half.com. my books originally totaled $800 but using half.com now saved me $500.

That sucks that you have to buy books.

yes i agree buying books sucks!! umm at my school they give them to you!!

Half.com has cheap books.

I got my French book for $7 from there(including shipping) in good condition.

I'm taking a college French course online because my school doesn't offer AP French.

Well, i can't find this book anywhere that's cheap, so I guess I'll just have to buy it for $240 (at school bookstore, which inflates like crazy. ONE PENCIL is $3.50!!!)

Bump...

Wow, I actually couldn't imagine having to buy textbooks for high school :) My school checks the textbooks out to us for the school year.

Amazon is a rip-off is your books are recent (as in published in '06 or '07).
Try eBay or Barnes and Nobles...

Do you need an actual copy of the book when you go to school? If you do, can you just borrow a friend's copy when you go to that class?

If you do that, you can try to find these books in PDF form from bittorrent. That's what I would do...
