ahh!

i havea 4.0 and go to highland Park high school! i made a 1910 on the SAT, 13 of my family members have gone to texas. You think i have a chance??

what is your class rank?

Highland Park is a public school. Your class rank will matter more than anything else. Legacies don’t matter as much at Texas unless they are big donors. If you are not top 8% of your HS class then I hope your CR and Math on SATs are where the majority of your score comes from. Good luck.

Legacies don’t matter AT ALL.

my school doesnt rank because so many of us have extremely close gpa’s that it wasnt very fair! i made a 700 on math and a 660 on cr

It’ll be tough man, I’d suggest you retake the SAT. Highland Park is a good school, but when it comes to general admissions for UT, unfortunately, rank is the most important factor. Your SAT will help if you are border, and it will help you get into your choice major.

@MainLonghorn,

Legacies don’t matter in the same way they do at a private school. However, if someone is an important alumnus and throws enough money around, their son or daughter will be treated differently. I’m not going to name any names, but I’ve seen it happen on more than one occasion.

@burdec

Your SAT score is a bit higher than the average freshman to enter UT (at least from what I saw on a research study that evaluates the top 10% rule that was sent out by the director of the TexasExes a little over a year ago to alumni). I don’t think you’d have to retake the exam. I would contact admissions and find out how they would evaluate you with your SAT score, GPA, and no class rank. My feeling is that you would be admitted or get in pretty quickly on the waitlist. That is not to say that I think you should even be on the waitlist, but they have to give places to people by law before they hand out any other spots. My sister had a lower GPA and SAT than you did, and her school also didn’t have ranking either. She got into COLA 3 years ago. She’s graduating this coming weekend :)

say ahh
lol sorry, i just had to do that

Having Highland Park High School across the top of your diploma will play a part. Do you have ec’s? Letters of Rec? Good Essays? What major are you applying to? You need to post a little more information… I also suggest you retake the SAT if you have time/ havent all ready.
At the very least, you’ll get CAPd.

it definitely will, lol the rich school.

^^ excuse me pierrechn, but out of curiosity have you ever been to highland park?
I’m not particularly under the impression you have, otherwise you’d see that having HPHS on the top of the diploma helps because it is one of the top public schools in Texas, if not nationally as well, not because it’s a ‘rich school’…

From looking at the feeder schools for UT, Highland park is definitely looked at by UT.
Though a 1910 SAT is an average SAT for UT. Legacies don’t count as stated above. It is really a reach for you. Good luck, though!

Having HP on the diploma will help you out tremendously but…

With all things considered, I think the safest thing you can do is take the SAT or ACT again. Your score right now is good, but without a class rank you will have a more difficult time getting accepted and will need a more stellar test score. Also, tell me if I am wrong but I remember reading a newspaper article one time that mentioned HP and a few other schools and it said that they do acknowledge the top 10% (or 8% now) while the rest are unranked.

And pierrechn is not incorrect in stating that HP is in a “rich” area of Dallas. Therefore, it could be argued that the school is one of the best in the nation due to this, but it isn’t ALL because they are rich

we all know preston hollow is the richest area, but the money is in HP too

Anybody notice that pierrechn always uses “lol” just before putting his foot in his mouth?

@kevrey50: yes, especially when he is in the process of insulting someone.
