Ok I am a white male from California. I go to a "inner city" high school.

I want to do Mechanical Engineering.

SAT I - R 600, M 780, W 610 Total = 1990
SAT II - Math II 770, Physics 670 (was only half way through the class when I took the test)

GPA weighted 4.47
Unweighted 3.82

Classes this year

AP Gov
Gate Econ (did not offer AP the period I need)
AP Physics
College level Film Class
AP Literature
Calculus 150 (AB) at the city college and taking Calculus 160 (BC) next semester.

Awards: School AMC 12 math contest winner last year. Then a bunch of other regular awards like Community service, NHS, honor roll and CSF.

ECS: Building houses in Mexico 2 years.
Family Care center volunteering 40 hours
Short movie set internship 40 hours
Annual fashion show tech helping. 4 years. 16 hours a year.
Other random ones.

Good Essays and Teacher recs.

Now my schools.

I applied to a lot of reaches but would be fine going to cal poly if I do not get into any of the reaches

Cal Poly SLO
UCSD
UC Berkeley
University of Florida
GA Tech
Rensselaer
Harvey Mudd
Olin
Duke
Carnegie Mellon
Stanford

sats seem pretty low, and 770 IIC compared to what i imagine to be a sea of engineering applicants with higher SAT iis probably doesnt bode too well for stanford, berkeley (if indeed mech e), olin, and hmc, the rest i know little about

I won't say match/reach,etc...
Cal Poly SLO - in
UCSD - in
UC Berkeley - out
University of Florida - mhm ~~
GA Tech - ~~
Rensselaer - in
Harvey Mudd - in
Olin - don't know enough
Duke - out
Carnegie Mellon - out
Stanford - out

Harvey Mudd - in?

I think that is one of the harder schools I am applying to.

Thanks for the input it is just about what I was expecting.

Hopefully I get lucky and get into either Duke, Harvey Mudd, Stanford or Carnegie Mellon. Maybe I have about a 20% chance.

I do not really want to go to Olin even-though if I ever got in. It just seemed like a cool idea when I applied.

your SATI is a bit low for Harvey Mudd and Stanford...

But good gpa for sure..

You're right about that. Mudd is definitely a reach for you. Ignorant posters usually have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to Mudd.
