AHHH...Grades @ Penn

alrighty, now that we have been accepted to the fourth best school in the nation, how bad can we expect our sleep life to suffer for the next four years. people say that the ivies inflate grades. is it like that at penn? (not that it would be a bad thing). generally for a student in the college, will it be hard maintaing an 3.5 is gpa if i avoid the infamous math and science class curves as much as possible. (mjoring probably in intl studies…) thanks

it all depends on where you are now. If you attend a very rigorous HS, you should be prepared well enough to slide into Penn's mode without a problem. I know there are schools in the Philadelphia area that feed Penn, and those school will state that they are working their seniors at the pace/workload of Penn. At our school, parents were warned in the summer of the massive increase in work coming for senior beginning in Sept. Lots of school across the country and possibly around the globe will take a similar approach to senior year. The better high schools will prepare their students well. Don't worry too much if you come from a good school. If not, you might have more of a transition next fall.

that sounds like good advice, momsdream. workethic, ofcourse ofcourse

I don't know , I know a friend's brother.. he had 1440 , ranked 22/600 ( central high school) , he had couple C and mostly B , also this guy 1280 ranked 37 ... he had a F freshmen year and many C sophomore year...on the other hand some people did well

It also all depends on your input.

Some like to prioritize social life freshman year, some focus on the academics.

If you want straight A:s at Penn you will have to work for it!

let's compare like Calculus at Penn with BC Calculus
or Psychology Ap with intro to psychology or any courses at Penn that you can compare to AP courses... how different is each...

my math teacher who went to pennstate(oh no!) said he has a few roomates ,all had 1400+, and one failed out, and other got straight c's. come on, we all have those mucho gifted friends that underachieve. just make sure you dont become one of them. i can totally see myself dedicating alot of time to work and still having fun at penn.

how about you?

how about me what?

are you attending penn? what's your grades.. and SAT/high school gpa or rank

yup, attending SAS, 1480/ rural high school in northern maryland(cecil county) 3rd, class pres... yourself?

philadelphia high school senior ,how are you grades... is Penn hard...

dude, im still in highschool!!!! lol, thats why i started this thread lol. im taking 3 aps this year(ab, stat, litcomp),

my bad, i probably should have clarified that " i WILL be attending SAS"

It all depends on what classes you take. You could take easy classes like rocks for jocks and get really high grades.

is econominc easy? plus compare those ap courses to college..
