Does anyone else suffer since Pepperdine doesn't have early action and we have to wait until APRIL ??? I've heard from all my other colleges, and knowing how long I'll have to wait for Pepperdine is killing me!! I'm still polishing up that supplemental essay.... Ahhhh

Let's kill the time together yea ? :)

Who else applied for Pepperdine, and what other schools?
Is Pep your top choice?

pepperdine wasn’t my first choice, but im considering going there or community (if i get in). I didnt get into NYU and it succkkks. but i really want to transfer there. im sure pepperdine is nice since it IS in malibu! but are there a lot of religious things? are the students really religious or do they just go there cuz its in malibu? i hope its the second one lol but hmm…i wanted to go to usc too but i dont think ill get in.

I’ve spent some time taking courses at Pepperdine and its not like that at all. Idk why so many people think its such a cut throat religious place, its just affiliated. And sure people go there because its in Malibu, but Pepperdine has a prestigious academic program and its great to say you went there.

okay lol thanx…keep ur advice going lol jk u dont have to, but it makes me want to go there more now. i didnt think too highly of it before. but then again i didnt think nyu was that great and i learned so much about it (before i got rejected! lol) and it was much more prestigious than i perceived it to be.

yeah i didnt think itd be that religious at pepperdine…most kids arent too religious unless they are realllllyy dedicated to it, but i know this one girl at my school who is really into religion and im not. so idk if itd be right for me. altho i dont mind learning about other religions, i just dont pray like everyday or anything like that lol

would u choose pepperdine over occidental or chapman?

Haha yea I actually know a girl who is atheist and she wants to go there - and I think that’ll be completely fine. You do have to take a few religion classes each semester, but I’m prettyyy sure you get to choose which religion. If anything you’ll learn about different viewpoints:]

I actually applied to Chapman as a 2nd or 3rd choice, but haven’t heard back yet. I think that’s also a great school, just not quiteee as well known or up to par as Pepperdine. Its still pretty good though. I’ve never heard of Occidental…

really? i didnt know pepperdine was better than chapman. it sounds better tho ; ] occidental is where barack obama went. he then got into harvard. soo… i guess its good! but he’s also probably a genius. however, he probably would’ve gone to any Ivy if he was a total genius.

occidental requires higher sat scores

and thats kool if u can choose diff religions!

A bit of an explanation on the religion classes… You have to take three, and they’re all on some aspect of Christianity. The first is History and Religion of Israel, which is basically looking at the Old Testament. The second is History and Religion of Early Christianity, which is studying the New Testament. The third is Christianity and Culture, for which there are different topics to choose from (which I think vary some year to year).

I took the third religion course while studying abroad in Greece, so we learned about the Greek Orthodox Church (and it turned out to be, by far, my easiest class at Pepperdine). A couple more examples, looking at the options for next spring, one class looks at the impact Christians have on the cultures they live in, and another is on ecology and public policy.

Students receive a grade for attending convocation. 14 total convo credits earns an A, and it goes down from there; it’s 1 unit per semester, that’s factored into your Pepperdine GPA. Getting about one credit a week will meet the requirement, but you pick and choose how you do it.

There’s a big convo in the Firestone Fieldhouse every Wednesday morning that most students go to, and there’s a different guest speaker every week. Then there’s also generally other, smaller, things you can go to throughout the week for credits as well. They may also have a guest speaker, or are focused on some specific topic, and sometimes you can even watch a movie and then discuss it. Most convos last somewhere between 30 - 45 minutes.

There are also club convos you can join, where you meet regularly with a small group that’s centered around a specific topic and earn convo credits, or sign up to meet with mentor, and earn credits for that.

Basically there are lots of ways to fulfill the requirements, so it’s kind of annoying, but not too bad. Just don’t procrastinate, and try to earn all your credits at the end of the semester, because that’s when the lines get really long, and you might not get in.

soo u dont have to go to mass? thats a good question paparazzi (fan of lady gaga’s?)

that sounds good…doesnt seem too hard to get convo credits…whutever those are lol i dont mind doing religious stuff. are ppl really into religion at pepperdine or if i dont really pray and stuff…will i be fine?

No, mass is part of Catholicism, and has no connection to the Church of Christ.

And you’ll be fine. The people who are more actively religious won’t shun you or anything, and there are lots of other students who aren’t very religious either.

When I was there this summer we did lotsa fun things. There’s a movie theatre… but it only has two screens. There’s shopping in two different areas, and the BEST cupcake place ever called Crumbs ;]. Santa Monica isn’t too far. Also if you go to the Country Mart (I think thats what its called) there’s Nobu which is amazing as well as lotsa papparazzi and movie stars at night haha. You’ll probably be bored if you’re a huge partier, but if not you’ll be fine. I’m not into the whole partying scene so I had a lotta fun. Also you can’t be out too late in that town, everything in Malibu shuts down at like 10. We went to LA and SM a lot though.

The beach is also big entertainment for me, because I live in the middle of a desert haha.

lol yeah im not a partier either…mainly because people here are huge partiers and drop outs, or they dont party at all and they study all day. but i probably wouldnt party anyways. just cuz im not even 18…so its kinda wierd to get drunk when ur little…? but anyways lol i wouldnt mind i dont think occasionally…in college

i live right by the beach and i barely ever go…but its kinda cold here. i guess ur description sounds pretty kool…sounds like u could do a lot there. and the whole movie star thing is awesome! ive only seen 2 celebs in person : ]

woah thats kool. my friend lives right next to a celebrity…well he’s down the street. u can PM me if u want to know who. lol and anyone else. i luvvv paris hilton lol and her hotels! theyre awesome. i luv lady gaga’s music too. evry1 thinks paris is dumb but shes not : ] otherwise she wouldnt be where she is. so where do these celebs come?

you’ll see a bunch at this sushi place called Nobu. Its sooo expensive but absolutely delicious:) yea i think lady gaga and paris are both amazing!!! hahah

lol a lotta ppl ask this and its kinda annoying but ill ask u lol are u rich? haha or i guess fairly wealthy? i would soo go there…just to see celebs lol and to try sushi! : ] so are u set on pepperdine or do u have others in mind? where else did u apply
