ok... so I just finished my first quarter of freshmen chemistry, and even though I thought I understood the concepts, I did worse and worse on each test, and bombed the final. so my final GRADE IS A C+! AHHHH.

(knowing that I have about another 2 years of chemistry...) Am I doomed? I know I will have to work a LOT harder to make up for this bad grade... BUT If I keep getting C's like this in the rest of my pre med requirement classes, should I just stop being "premed"? Help.

If you get C's in the rest of your reqs. then that pretty much eliminates you from applying directly to med school. You would have to do a postgrad program and retake the courses that way and show that you can do well in them.

For starters, relax. I know a few med school students who ultimately got accepted to fine schools (Duke, Stanford) but started with at least one C in their first semester. (One of them had a 1st semester GPA of 2.75 and got no As in anything until his sophomore year.) Look at your current performance and figure out how you will improve in the coming semesters. Are you not spending enough time studying? Are you studying ineffectively? Step back and renew your comittment to the task at hand. You can raise your GPA to a competitive level...it may not be easy, but it can be done.

Hey, I just fiished reading your post weirdo. i am a freshman and i also finished my first quarter in chemistry. I too plan on becoming a doctor. Even though you recieved a C+ , you should not let that discourage you from becoming a doctor if that is something that you REALLY want to do. Grades do not define you! My advice to you is to figure out why you earned that grade and move on having in mind not to make the same mistake. Good luck :)
