Ahhhhhhhh!

On my common app long essay, I missed spelled Papua New Guinea and Papa New Guinea. Will this reflect badly upon my application? I applied to yale ea...

IM SO DUMB

bump
please help!
i also made another typo
forgot to put “not” in a sentence :frowning:
should i contact the admin office?

LOL, don’t contact the admission office for this one small typo :p! I bet they won’t even notice it or mind it too much. It’s not as though you’re applying to the University of Papua New Guinea.

I believe even the admissions officers at Yale can’t spell Papua New Guinea and aren’t going to look it up. Other than that they may consider the app to be sloppy and hastily put together and throw it out if you made multiple mistakes.

there are only two mistakes in it
the misspelled Papua New Guinea
and
I forgot to put “not” in a sentence

is this really bad? i know its obviously not ideal

also, the common app thing truncated my short answer. it was under 150 words, and 1000 characters. i had print previewed it earlier and it showed the whole thing. Once i submitted the preview cut the last sentence.

should i try to send them the full version of the short essay (about extracurriculars)

I wouldn’t worry about it. [Papua New Guinea news, all the latest and breaking Papua New Guinea news - Telegraph](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/papuanewguinea/) spells it “LATEST PAPA NEW GUINEA NEWS” sometimes too. You’ll be okay!

Also it depends on how much the last sentence brought to your essay… did it tie the whole thing together? Or was it just extra fluff? I’m not personally sure though…

bump bump bump please!

One or two minor mistakes are actually good. They show that the student actually wrote the application themselves, as opposed to having it “edited” by a highly paid consultant.

One college said - “we don’t expect our applicants to be perfect writers. It is our job to teach them how to be great writers.”

really? even for the top tier schools? i feel the errors might reflect that I didn’tt ake their app seriously or rushed it… i really hope they don’t base their decision on the typo.

Also, were we supposed to have titles?
