AI or transcript?

Hello all, I have decided to apply to Harvard. I am in class of 2011, so 2015 (college-wise.)

My AI is 9-9, with rank top 5%-10% in a competitive publich HS.

However, my junior year has a horrible GPA (4.1 W, 3.6 UW, with many B+s- 90s). and (4.5, 3.8UW)

Can straight As the first semester senior year help me?

If my senior year report is sent to colleges mid-January, will I be already rejected?

When do they make their decisions? (like weeding out applicants with bad junior year,...etc)

I heard they do not finalize their decisions until March... Is this true?

FYI, I have no Cs, Ds,...etc on my transcript. My worst grade was a B from physical education and art.

Thank you for your time,

First of all, how are you getting an AI of 9/9?

A rank of 5% (your highest estimate) keeps you from getting a 9/9 AI, even if you have perfect 800s as scores. You might want to provide your stats.

As for your question about grades, your B’s will not help your application. But these B’s would need to be assessed in context of rigor and in context of class rank. I know there are debates on CC about the importance of rank, I am one who believes that rank is important to Harvard.

In the end though, if your application is compelling and appeals to Harvard. B’s alone will not keep you from being accepted.

Thank you for your help
Oh, I did not put top 5% or top 10%.
I put my exact rank- which is number 4 or 5 or 6 or 7, somewhere there, haha.

So if my val took wayy less classes than I did, how will the adcoms know that?
(If he and I apply to same schools)

The adcoms will read the transcripts to know how many classes you and the other applicants took.

Yes, the adcoms will read your mid-year report if it comes in January. Application files are still being collated and organized through January.

Strive for those A’s first semester in order to demonstrate an upward rise in grades and increased academic maturity.

Your GC’s report will address the academic rigor of your course selections and put in context of your graduating class and or those classes prior to yours.

Thank you~!
